1. Bruce Springsteen - This is a very easy one for me. So much has been said about Bruce, I don't really have to say anything at all. Other than how remarkable it is to follow up one of the greatest albums of all-time with FOUR great albums.
There is a very big gap between Bruce and the other three.
2. Van Morrison - Two good albums and some really good songs. I love playing Brown Eyed Girl on the ukele.
3. Neil Young - IMO one of the most overrated artists of all-time. He has good work of course, but certainly not in the 620 greatest artists. Maybee T50.
4. Tom Waits - I don't actively dislike him, but I don't like him either.
Ouch. Van the man, my number one artist of all time, not getting any respect. He's more than just two good albums. Check out Tupelo Honey or Into the Music. I think he's more of a musician's musician though.
1. Van
2. Tie Neil Young & Bruce Springsteen
3. Tom Waits
1) Neil Young- Outside of a weird electronic music misstep (I think it was called LUCKY THIRTEEN. I will confess liking the song "Sample and Hold" though.) I seem to like a good deal of Young's work. (Though I liked PRAIRIE WIND much better than LIVING WITH WAR which most people seem to prefer.) Own GR. HITS and THIS NOTE'S FOR YOU, want to own HARVEST, DECADE and HARVEST MOON and possible ARE YOU PASSIONATE?
2) Bruce Springsteen- Love NEBRASKA (GREAT stuff) and BORN IN THE U.S.A. (also great). Liked BORN TO RUN. Disinterested in TOM JOAD and the Seeger album for the most part.
3) Van Morrison- Love MOONDANCE, TOO LONG IN EXILE and PAY THE DEVIL. Have liked some tracks I've heard outside of those 3. Really don't "get" ASTRAL WEEKS (sorry to those of you who adore it.)
4) Tom Waits- Mostly last through unfamiliarity but I do like BONE MACHINE and some of RAINDOGS. Need to hear more Waits since I usually like songs of his others have covered.
1. Bruce - Leaps and bounds above the rest.
2. Neil - Voice is kinda whiny, but he can write good songs.
3. Tom - Haven't heard all that much but he sure can write songs.
4. Van - Not too crazy about.
1. Neil Young
2. Bruce Springsteen
3. Van Morrison
4. Tom Waits
Easy, easy call on #1.
My conscience is bothering me about choosing Bruce over Van…I like Bruce, but think he’s somewhat overrated. However, if I’m honest with myself, I listen to him a lot more than I listen to Morrison. Tom Waits I admire.
