1 PT. YELLOW SUBMARINE: Sometimes an otherwise mediocre (or even bad) song is elevated by its proximity to greatness. Sometimes though, a song is so bad that it brings the entire ship down. "Yellow Submarine" is guilty of the latter; it's like the musical equivalent of being in a hot-air balloon with John Pinette. He's good for a laugh or two and the trip's a bit more fun with him on board, but without him in the basket, the balloon would rocket towards the stratosphere and give you an even more amazing view.

1 PT. HER MAJESTY: No, not a bad song. And its length isn't the problem, it's the placement of it. Probably the most "unnecessary" Beatles song, when context is considered.

I agree Anthony, I was listening to Revolver tonight and I had to jump to skip past Yellow Submarine. It really does bring that album down. I should have had it on earlier, because there is no other song in their catalog that hurts the album it's on as much as Yellow Submarine. It's a nice song for the movie but on Revolver it is horrible.

My process for elimination:
First take out of consideration all tunes that I like to listen to at least 75% of the time. That cut it down to 72 tunes.

I then went through and assigned the tracks I liked least from each album/A-B sides. (For those interested, the “lesser” tunes break down like this across the albums: A and B sides (9), Beatles for Sale (7), White Album (7), Help! (6), Please Please Me (5), With the Beatles (5), Let it Be (5), A Hard Day’s Night (4), Abbey Road (4), Revolver (3), Yellow Submarine (3), Sgt. Pepper (2) and Magical Mystery Tour (2).)

Cover tunes tend to be higher on the disinterest scale for me from the Fabs (“Twist and Shout” is a notable exception to the rule) followed by those I can’t “sing in my head” very well.
