Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

It says it's published by The New Nation newspapers, Britains biggest selling African - Carribean news paper, so this is definitely OK.

I like this list and it should at least make Jason happy too. But Moonbeam, I was expecting to see a comment from you about Prince only ending up on a 75th place!

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Yeah, Prince being at number 75 is bogus.

Plus, they should have put in 1999 instead.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Can we have the top 100 albums by artists with blue eyes next?

Not the Typical Selections...

in some cases, that we usually see- i.e. no Aretha Franklin's I Never Loved a Man... or Lady Soul (which usually are her cited albums). But, that's what makes it more interesting, I s'ppose.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

When was this poll released? (Maybe I just missed it.) It doesn't look like anything's on there from the last 5 years or so.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Jill Scott is in there, so it has to be 2001 or later, I think.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

I think that Jill Scott album came out in early to mid-2000. I think it may be telling that her album and Voodoo are on there, and Stankonia (which came out in late '00) is not...

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

One of the poorest lists of black music I've ever seen. Where's Sam Cooke, where's Otis Redding? Probably only present in the lousy Rap albums that sampled them.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Otis Redding is number 90, a low position nevertheless; he should be higher but, at least, he's there. But, yes, Sam Cooke is not on it. And no Bobby Bland.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

And it's true that girl groups were more singles oriented acts but I don't think the value of The Supremes, The Crystals, The Shirelles or The Ronnetes can't be understimated, and none of them are on on the list.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Talking book is a steve wonder album, not marvin gaye

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Actually, there might be a very good reason why the Ronettes aren't on this list ...

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Michael Jackson isnt black! I've seen him on TV!

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Nas at #4? What about Otis Redding?

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

I'm appalled by that error. Talking Book is my all-time favorite album. Grrrr.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

I personally think "Innervisions" is better than "Songs In the Key of life".

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingness' First Finale, and Songs in the Key of Life are ALL brilliant. Songs is perhaps the best double album ever made, especially from a solo artist.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Uh Hello....2Pac at #64????

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

What's the problem with that?

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Pacman!

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Any list that puts the finest hip-hop album ever released at #5 is okay with me.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Slush, what are you talking about? TO THE EXTREME wouldn't even be eligible for this list ...

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

No TV ON THE RADIO?!?!?!?!?!?!

This should so not be eligable

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

They should have turned on their clairvoyance skills and predicted that TV On The Radio would release a great album 1 year later?

Who bumps 3 year old posts anyway? 2Pac fans apparently.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

I need to get better at reading timestamps.

Harold Wexler, I take your To The Extreme and rebut with this:

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

"Informer" is actually Bubbling Under the AM song list, believe it or not.

Anyone ever seen Jim Carrey's devastating Vanilla Ice parody ("White, White Baby") on IN LIVING COLOR?

First time I'm trying this, so bear with me if it doesn't work:

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

My biggest issues with this list:

#1: Hendrix not until #40?
#2: Lauryn Hill in top ten? Combine an irritating voice with generic melodies and cliche pandering lyrics, you do not get an album deserving this much acclaim.
#3: Songs In The Key Of Life highest Stevie Wonder album?!

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

I guess Hendrix is not considered black.

Oh wait, there he is, below Mary J Blige.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

I've been on an R&B and gospel kick lately (mostly listening to the "BODY AND SOUL" and "DIDN'T IT BLOW YOUR MIND?" series) but I still haven't heard an embarrassingly large number of these. The 39% I've heard below...

1.Whats going on - Marvin Gaye
2.Off the wall - Micheal Jackson
3.It takes a nation of millions to hold us back - Public Enemy
4.Songs in the key os life - Stevie wonder
6.Thriller - Micheal Jackson
9.Straight outta compton - NWA
10.The miseducation of Lauryn Hill - Lauryn Hill
12.Kind of blue - Miles Davis
14.Innervisons - Stevie Wonder
15.Whats the 411 - Mary J Blige
19.I want you - Marvin Gaye
21.Rapture - Anita Baker
22.Club classics vol 1 - Soul 2 Soul
23.Baduizm - Erykah Badu
24.Talkin book - Marvin Gaye
25.Exodus - Bob Marley
26.Greatest hits - Al Green
28.Superfly - Curtis Mayfield
31.Paid in full - Eric B and Rakim
32.3 Feet and rising - De La Soul
34.The score - Fugees
37.Hot buttered soul - Issac Hayes
40.Electric ladyland - Jimi Hendrix
41.Bad - Micheal Jackson
45.Theres a riot going on - Sly and The Family Stone

If you like hip-hop, get Illmatic. If you like jazz, get A Love Supreme.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

Already heard A LOVE SUPREME at this point.

ILLMATIC on reserve at library...

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

We'll agree to disagree BillAdama:

SONGS IN THE KEY is by FAR my favorite Stevie Wonder. In fact, it's on a very short personal list of good double/triple albums.

Re: Top 100 Albums by Black Artists

it's unnacceptable me against the world and all eyes on me be on 49 and 64, me against the world is top 5 and all eyes on me is top 15!!!!

Japandi is a design style that blends Japanese and Scandinavian influences. The result is a clean, minimal look that is both elegant and functional. Japandi furniture is often made of natural materials such as wood and stone, and it often features simple, clean lines. Color schemes are typically muted, with black, white, and gray being the most common. Japandi rooms are designed to be calm and relaxing, with a focus on simplicity and functionality. In recent years, Japandi has become increasingly popular as more people seek out ways to create a calming oasis in their homes. If you're looking for a way to bring a touch of Japandi into your home, start with simple changes like adding a few low-profile pieces of furniture or using muted colors in your decor. You may be surprised at how quickly you fall in love with the look.

You’ll find obviously quite a lot of details just like that to take into consideration. That´s a fantastic point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly you will discover questions like the one you bring up where the most very important thing definitely will be working in honest excellent faith. I don´t know if most useful practices have emerged around things just like that, but I am certain that your work is clearly identified as a fair game. Protetox
