Re: AMers lists Noah's Ark style : jacek & Tim O

thanks Beans and that guy who wrote the Bible (can't remember his name) for the Noah's ark metaphor. Love it.

Re: AMers lists Noah's Ark style : jacek & Tim O

Time to seek out Veedon Fleece. Excellent idea this, nicolas. Thanks.

Re: AMers lists Noah's Ark style : jacek & Tim O

Jacek, nice placements for Spiritualized, Yes, and King Crimson. I really need to listen to Maxinquaye and relisten to the two Talk Talk albums.

Re: AMers lists Noah's Ark style : jacek & Tim O

Surprised not to see Into the Music on Tim O's list with so much Van Morrison.

Re: AMers lists Noah's Ark style : jacek & Tim O

What I tend to do with these lists is look for the two or three highest rated albums I haven't heard and add them to my 'look into' list. For instance, I'll be looking into Van Dyke Parks and United States Of America.

In this case I've heard a large amount of both lists, except I haven't heard Veedon Fleece. I'm a bit iffy on Van Morrison stuff since, other than Astral Weeks and Moondance I've found all of his stuff I've heard a little samish. I'm talking mostly about His Band And Street Choir, Tupelo Honey, and St Dominic's Preview. Is Veedon Fleece something really special like Astral Weeks and Moondance, or will I not like it if I didn't like those other three?

Veedon Fleece is more like Astral Weeks than any other Van Morrison album. Its sort of a cousin to Astral Weeks. In theme, Veedon Fleece is like Dylan's Blood on the Tracks. Its sort of a coming into mid-life crisis album. The past and future are uncertain and there is a running away from the present. There is a celtic, stream of consciousness quality to Veedon Fleece that makes it stick to your bones after repeated listenings. Its really not an album I would have appreciated in my early twenties but in my late thirties where the adult problems really hit and you really begin to question yourself, and your surroundings, it becamee a perfect soundtrack.

There is really no justification for me leaving this album off my list and including No Guru, No Method, No Teacher. However, if I am being honest about it, I personally prefer No Guru, even though Into the mystic is an historically more significant album. I'm also sick of hearing bright side of the Road in concert!

I'm a huge Van Morrison fan (number 1 artist for me) and I would suggest Into the Music as the third album to get after the big two. Of course, not to take anything away from Tim O's number one. Into the Music is in my top 20. Im a little surprised that "And the Healing has Begun" doesn't get more attention as a song than it gets.
