Re: AMF All-Time Songs Poll: Results Part 2

Perfect work Jackson.
It's a pity there are no more outstanding for the first 20 albums.
And Dylan's LARS continue to surprise me. My ears bleed when I listen it and his harmonica makes me run very far so his first place always amazes me.

Best. Presentation. Ever.

Jackson, I know what you meant when you said that you expected more excitement, I've felt the same when I have hosted previous polls. It's always great to get a lot of comments.

However, admittedly I am one of many who have quietly followed this countdown, but with great excitement! Letting the results sink in place by place was a pure pleasure. Thank you so much!

And I second that! I thought the pacing of the results was excellent. I had Firefox on 5-minute auto-refresh since the top 200 began!

I think the Beach Boys ended up in second on the strength of Pet Sounds. Most of the tracks showed up here, and really, just about every song is on a par with "God Only Knows".

I am a tad surprised the same thing didn't happen with OK Computer this time.

Re: AMF All-Time Songs Poll: Results Part 2

Re: AMF All-Time Songs Poll: Results Part 2

Telling other people what songs to like feels weird...but here it goes anyway:

Beach Boys - 'Til I Die - People who like Surf's Up (myself included) will probably like this one

Bob Dylan - It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) - read the lyrics as you listen to the song at least once

David Bowie - Warszawa - Quickly becoming one of my favorites by him.

The Kinks - Shangri-La - I think you would really like this one, but they have dozens of others...Picture Book, Victoria, A Well Respected Man, 20th Century Man, Village Green, etc.

Joy Division - She's Lost Control - Simultaneously dark and catchy

Zombies - Hung Up on a Dream or This Will Be Our Year - The two masterpieces of that album, IMO

My Bloody Valentine - anything off Loveless; I think half the album made my list, topped by Soon

Portishead - The Rip - Best song of the last three years

Re: AMF All-Time Songs Poll: Results Part 2

1. The Beatles - "I Want You (She's So Heavy)," "Sexy Sadie," "Dear Prudence," "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End," "Across the Universe," "Don't Let Me Down," "Hey Bulldog," "Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey," "Baby, You're a Rich Man," "Rain"
2. The Beach Boys - "Feel Flows," "The Warmth of the Sun," "Forever"
6. Radiohead - "Planet Telex," "Just," "All I Need," "Bones," "Bullet Proof…I Wish I Was," "Street Spirit (Fade Out)," "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi," "Reckoner"
12. Simon & Garfunkel - "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)," "Song for the Asking," "Old Friends/Bookends," "The Dangling Conversation," "I Am a Rock," "The Boxer," "Scarborough Fair," "America," "My Little Town"
18. Jimi Hendrix - "The Wind Cries Mary," "Castles Made of Sand"
19. Led Zeppelin - "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You," "Dazed and Confused," "Heartbreaker," "Misty Mountain Hop," "Trampled Underfoot"
21. R.E.M. - "New Orleans Instrumental"
40. Oasis - "Stop Crying Your Heart Out"
42. The Doors - "Touch Me"
45. The White Stripes - "Blue Orchid," "The Hardest Button to Button," "We're Going to Be Friends," "My Doorbell," "You Don't Know What Love Is"
52. Pink Floyd - "Echoes," "Dogs," "Pigs (Three Different Ones)"
54. Johnny Cash - "God's Gonna Cut You Down"
55. Sonic Youth - "Superstar," their darker version of the Carpenters' hit
62. Queen - "Don't Stop Me Now" (nice to see it make the Top 1,000 list, it is in my opinion very overshadowed by their uber-mainstream hits "We Are the Champions," "We Will Rock You," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "Another One Bites the Dust," and of course, "Bohemian Rhapsody")
64. Derek & The Dominos - "Bell Bottom Blues"
84. Eagles - "One of These Nights," "Desperado," "In the City," "Those Shoes"
91. Beck - "Devil's Haircut"
96. Franz Ferdinand - "Do You Want To"

Thanks, Jackson, this was fun!

Chose "Rose For Emily" as my Zombies song, Loveless doesn't bite for me...Rip is great. Have the Kinks songs in a Kinks folder. Warzawa is fine but somehow pales side by side to other electronic music. No fan of Eno either. Real fan of BB's two 70s albums. will spin "She's lost Control" a few more times.

Maybe we should really give single AM:ers "attention" what to listen to. But first after we taken part of what they listen to more extensively.

Say one listener a week!

"Listener of the week" :)

Oops, I´m a little late with this. But in any case: Kudos for the great presentation Jackson! Hope I didn´t give you too much work with my endless list.

Thanks again, everyone. I'll wait until all of the current listmania dies down before I post the individual lists and stats.

Let me just reiterate what a wonderful job you did with this list! I know the work must have been massive, accepting up to 500 songs per ballot. You've set a new benchmark.

Re: AMF All-Time Songs Poll: Results Part 2

Fred
Neil Young is missing in the artists collected votes.

Missing, or just low-ranking?

Here is the list continued:

101. Glen Campbell - 1,987.9
102. Kraftwerk - 1,979.8
103. Wu-Tang Clan - 1,976.5
104. Tracy Chapman - 1,972.5
105. Charles Mingus - 1,934.3
106. Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five - 1,930.9
107. Steely Dan - 1,919.9
108. The Temptations - 1,894.8
109. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 1,889.7
110. King Crimson - 1,854.2
111. Paul Simon - 1,816.9
112. Eminem - 1,811.4
113. Elliott Smith - 1,781.9
114. Neutral Milk Hotel - 1,749.2
115. Martha & The Vandellas - 1,746.0
116. The Beta Band - 1,712.9
117. Funkadelic - 1,709.7
118. New Radicals - 1,704.5
119. ABBA - 1,694.2
120. The Breeders - 1,680.0
121. Neil Young - 1,670.7
122. Beyonce - 1,667.8
123. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - 1,646.1
124. Gorillaz - 1,630.2
125. The Kingsmen - 1,579.0

Now I do realize that by only counting total points for songs in the top 500, artists like Neil Young end up getting less points for 2 songs than artists like the New Radicals for one song.

Just curious as to your view as to when the listmania is expected to wane sufficiently for you to post the individual lists.

I'm sorry about the delay with this. I've been really busy with school the last few weeks, but this weekend will be free and I'll be posting individual lists/stats then.
