Nothing wrong with taking that approach to achieve a minimal clearance, though I've done high mileages on cranks with .0004"-.0005" clearances at assembly....Over 80,000 miles in my B33 for example...Ian

I always hone to .0004" clearance and have never had a problem. I do know of people building HD race engines where they try to achieve 0 clearance. As for other bikes, Velocette recommends a clearance of .0005" to .001" I have a few Laverda's and the manual says .0002"
