This might be a good year for some of the oldies to sneak in (now that the big British invasion bands are out of the way).
If I were going to name the 4 biggest figures in country music, I would say Hank (admitted), Johnny (admitted), George Jones (clawing his way slowly up the charts), and Merle Haggard (about to make an auspicious debut on my vote list).
Among other distinguished "oldies" we also have the inventor of bluegrass (Bill Monroe), a great bluesman (Howlin' Wolf), three key figures in the history of jazz (Charlie Parker, Count Basie, and Dizzy G.), and two heralded American folk artists (Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie).
Please think about these heroes of music before you pull the lever for the Doors or S&G.
