HOA: 1969 eligibles list

Not nearly as many new artists this year; the action this time has more to do with artists moving up the list, including a new #1 as Lady Soul moves past the Lizard King.

You should check out the 1967 results on the results thread if you haven’t yet.

Post your ballots on the 1968 voting thread.

Re: HOA: 1969 eligibles list

OK, I know I disabled smilies that time...something weird is happening.

Sorry, folks. I know that looks very silly.

Re: HOA: 1969 eligibles list

This might be a good year for some of the oldies to sneak in (now that the big British invasion bands are out of the way).

If I were going to name the 4 biggest figures in country music, I would say Hank (admitted), Johnny (admitted), George Jones (clawing his way slowly up the charts), and Merle Haggard (about to make an auspicious debut on my vote list).

Among other distinguished "oldies" we also have the inventor of bluegrass (Bill Monroe), a great bluesman (Howlin' Wolf), three key figures in the history of jazz (Charlie Parker, Count Basie, and Dizzy G.), and two heralded American folk artists (Leadbelly and Woody Guthrie).

Please think about these heroes of music before you pull the lever for the Doors or S&G.

Re: HOA: 1969 eligibles list

good advice!

Re: HOA: 1969 eligibles list

Yeah, I thought the same thing...I would also add Howlin' Wolf and maybe Big Joe Turner into the mix.

I promise I won't be voting for the Doors, at any rate.

Re: HOA: 1969 eligibles list

good idea
I guess I'll do a 50-50 (as always)
