VH1 100 Greatest Songs of the 00s

As expected, a very mainstream list. Sure, a lot of the top 20 actually had some decent acclaim, but the further down it goes, the more sketchy it becomes. But, hey, it's a mainstream version of the best of the decade.

It is rather amusing to see some of these radio hits on the same list as some actual critical hits.

Re: VH1 100 Greatest Songs of the 00s

"...it’s certainly safe to start collecting and collating 10 years’ worth of culture.

That’s exactly what VH1 is up to with their 100 Greatest Songs of the ’00s special, which counts down the finest tunes the post-Y2K era had to offer."

Well, it looks to be eligible but I guess it came too late for the coming update...

Re: VH1 100 Greatest Songs of the 00s

What a disgusting list!

Yah...

not so much an issue with a good amount of the top 30 or so (as they were bonafide critical hits), but once you get lower on the list, it's ridiculous- Nickelback, Daughtry, Pussycat Dolls, James Blunt, Jennifer Lopez, etc. etc. VH1 should have just named it Our Greatest Hits of the 2000s.

I take greater exception to The Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, and especially Beyonce. They don't belong anywhere near a best of list, unless it is "best songs for a playlist in Hell".

LOL...

don't be tossin' shade at Queen B, now. "Crazy in Love" is an acclaim MONSTER, too.

One of my acclaim WTF's is "In Da Club"- one continuous loop through the track and yet it's so celebrated. Ah well.

Re: VH1 100 Greatest Songs of the 00s

This may be the worst thing VH1 has ever done. This may be the worst thing anyone has ever done. Lady Gaga, Kelly Clarkson and Mariah Carey in the top 10? WTF????
And on top of that, they have songs from 1999 (Californication).

"Queen B" has earned the lofty ranking of #4 in this list of mine, which includes a staggering 26 of the 100 lead artists in VH1's dubious list.

Re: LOL...

I've never compiled a list of least favorite acts- such a negative focus, Moon. Some on your list are rather bad, but I also like the stray here or there (i.e. Pink).

I love and hate in equal measure when it comes to music.

Re: LOL...

Should be lower:
Since U Been Gone [I will never understand the acclaim of this song]
Crazy in Love
We Belong Together
I Gotta Feeling

Shouldn't be on the list:
Bootylicious
The Best of You
This Love
Daughters
Bye Bye Bye
Oops!...I Did It Again
Party in the USA
Sugar, We're Going Down
Lady Marmalade
Chasing Pavements
I Kissed a Girl
Picture
Pocketful of Sunshine

Should be higher:
Crazy [should be top 5, no question]
Seven Nation Army
Rehab
Don't Know Why
Mr. Brightside
Paper Planes [#89?! should be top 10]

Should be on the list:
Arcade Fire
Radiohead
Franz Ferdinand
MGMT
Kylie Minogue ("Can't Get You Out of My Head")
The Strokes
Daft Punk
LCD Soundsystem
R. Kelly - "Ignition (Remix)" NOT "Trapped in a Closet"
Modest Mouse
Peter Bjorn and John
Antony & The Johnsons
The Shins
TV on the Radio

Daniel...

you forgot Daughtry, Nickelback, Jennifer Lopez, etc. for those who should not be on the list. :)

"Paper Planes" so low is odd- but, again, it's VH1.

Re: Daniel...

Oh, and Sisqo. Blecchh.

I Agree...

but, inexplicably, "Thong Song" did rack up some acclaim, at least.

Re: VH1 100 Greatest Songs of the 00s

Cringeworthy, despite some spot-on additions (Outkast, Gnarls Barkley, M.I.A.). Anyway, it's pretty bad.

Re: VH1 100 Greatest Songs of the 00s

I just noticed that they included Miley Cirus. MILEY F*CKING CIRUS. Over "Take Me Out". What the hell is VH1 smoking?

LOL - epic list. How come "She Bangs" didn't make your top(or bottom) 3 Ricky Martin songs? I always thought it was the worst of all

By the time "She Bangs" came out, it wasn't the novelty of the awfulness wasn't quite there. Yes, it's horrible, but the three I list there made for genuinely horrifying experiences the first time I heard them.
