Re: the movie poll..

Re: the movie poll..

I'm toiling away. When are the submissions due? And should they be sent to the same googlemail account?

Re: the movie poll..

i've got mine up to 75 right now. i'm so excited!

Re: the movie poll..

I'm presuming that we're to send our top 100 list to your GoogleMail address referenced in the "I'm With Stupid" post (jadepalooka@googlemail.com) - correct? Also, what's the submission deadline? Thanks.

- A dialogue exchange from a recent film that will rank very high on my list...

that movie's going in my top 25, no doubt.

Re: the movie poll..

I have my list ready....somewhere...

I made it a while ago, wrote it down on paper, and now I can't find that piece of paper.

If that's from the movie I think it is, it's one I really need to see.

I'll get my list in, but not immediately. When's the deadline?

I need to look into Netflix and catch up on the classics.

Re: the movie poll..

1. yep,

jadepalooka@googlemail.com

and 2.

deadline is JULY 31

Re: the movie poll..

does it HAVE to be a top 100 list, or can it be less....say top 25?

Re: the movie poll..

no, so.. yes, Nick.

Re: the movie poll..

How many lists have you received so far? I'm still thinking about mine.

Re: the movie poll..

I'm still looking for mine. I might have to do it again.

Re: the movie poll..

John

zero...

Re: the movie poll..

just sent mine in!

Re: the movie poll..

I have a list, but it's not too unlikely that I will see something really good during July, so I will send my list at the end of the month.

Re: the movie poll..

I'm waiting a bit longer too.

Saw an excellent movie I'll squeeze into my list yesterday. Los Olvidados (The Forgotten Ones) is a Mexican movie from the 50s, made by Luis Bunuel. Excellent in every way, and if you can stand black/white movies (and foreign language) it is highly recommended.

Makes me think of my grandparents. Every time there was a black and white film on TV, my grandma used to say :

"Oh, not a black and white one, we ain't bought a colour set for nothing !"

I'be seen Los Olvidados like 25 years ago in Spanish class. i hadn't watched the movie that much (only the girls), but it has an excellent reputation

Re: the movie poll..

yep... received and approved. thanks, Michael. and let me add: your #9 is pretty inconceivable...

Re: the movie poll..

Re: the movie poll..

Has anyone sent in comments? I've got my list ready to go, but I haven't included comments. However, if nobody else is doing them, I'll just go ahead and send my list!

Re: the movie poll..

i haven't. i didn't even think about it! :(
oh well.

Re: the movie poll..

To quote the final line of a film that didn't quite make my top 100, by a director with two other movies in my top 30:

"I'm finished!"

Re: the movie poll..

sure it is, jonmarck...

like your #3, btw

Re: the movie poll..

Okay I'm in.

Re: the movie poll..

My list only needs some cosmetic work, and then it'll be finished. I'll probably send it in tomorrow, but I'm watching Blackboard Jungle tonight, and who knows, it might get includede. Brüno, which I saw yesterday, won't.

Re: the movie poll..

How many lists have you received so far, nj ?

Re: the movie poll..

so far I've received lists from Michael, Greg, Charlie Driggs, John, Harold Wexler, Stephan, Moonbeam and Matt Schroeder, nic... 3 days to go

Re: the movie poll..

you will get mine too, but I'm a slow worker.

Re: the movie poll..

You'll get my list in time
I've got this Night of the Hunter DVD at home I'd love to watch before submitting my list

Re: the movie poll..

sent !

Re: the movie poll..

I'll finish it tonight. How was Night of the Hunter?

Re: the movie poll..

Didn't see it. My wife wanted to see Mar Adentro (The Sea inside in english) instead and it won't be in my top 100 because it is not a great movie, despite Javier Bardem who is a chameleon-actor.

But Night of the Hunter is great. I saw it but so long ago that it's hard for me to rank it.

Re: the movie poll..

I think Mar Andentro is quite good. I saw Personal Best with Mariel Hemingway yesterday. It won't be in my top 100, but it was ok.

Re: the movie poll..

My list has been sent. And Night of the Hunter is indeed great.

Re: the movie poll..

I also sent my list.
Two movies from 1931 in my top 15

Night of the Hunter is great but didn't have place in my top 100.
And yesterday I watched Duck Soup (surprisingly not in my list. I picked other Marx bros movies). I have watched within a year 262 movies.

I did also a movie list by year. It's here. It won't spoil hardly anything because there are many years with 0 picks in my top 100 and actually some movies are higher in my top 100 list than those I chose the best two weeks ago.

Re: the movie poll..

Sent! At last. Now my shoulder aches.

Re: the movie poll..

I'll probably watch Hitchcock's Rebecca, or some of it, before going to bed. It coulda been a contenda.

Re: the movie poll..

My list is sent too.

This is the first time we have a poll where I have no clue about who's going to end up in the summary, so I really look forward to this.

Re: the movie poll..

Whew. Finished.

It's way harder to be confident in a best movie list than a best album list. You see most movies once or twice, maybe several times for your all time favorites, whereas you listen to albums dozens of times. Plus, I've heard way more of the most acclaimed albums than most acclaimed moves, so I found myself really reaching by the time I got all the way down to 100. I included a few things I loved when I was younger but wouldn't rate as high now, giving them points for lifetime total of entertainment rather than coincidence with current tastes.

Then there were a lot of movies where I thought "This is good...but do I really want to give it points when people here have seen more movies than me?"

Maybe what I'll do is take the top 200 on TSPDT, and pick one random one to watch a week, maybe using Netflix or something.

Re: the movie poll..

God, I knew it...

I forgot to include a Woody Allen and there are no western movies on my list

But what's done is done

!!!

love woody allen! and the good, the bad, and the ugly.
hahaha

Re: the movie poll..

I love WA too

But by western movies I meant the real thing (not spaghetti westerns)

Re: the movie poll..

I'm hoping that somebody found a way to vote for Raising Arizona.

Re: the movie poll..

I've voted for a couple of the classic westerns. And Woody Allen too.

Couldn't find Rebecca last night, so I watched Tucker: The Man and His Dream. Even though Francis Ford Coppola directed it, it's by no means worth watching. Overacted.

It came close, but I ended up only putting two Coen Bros. films on my list. Weird, because I'm a huge fan, but there were so many other movies I wanted to include. If I expanded my list to 200, there would be seven.

I didn't submit a list, but it would have included 2-5 Coen Brothers movies: Raising Arizona and The Big Lebowski would be locks. Other strong contenders would be Miller's Crossing, O Brother, and Fargo.

Re: the movie poll..

3 Coen Bros on my list, and the 4th is at #107

But no Raising Arizona

I don't know about you, but what I really enjoy the most in those polls are the individual lists.

Re: the movie poll..

I got three Coen movies as well. And, yes, the individual lists are what I'm really looking forward to. I believe you can learn a lot about a person from looking at them.

Looking through my movie collection I found I forgot to vote for Full Moon High. Dang!

Re: the movie poll..

ok, folks. thanks for all your contributions. you'll find the results in the off-topic section.
