Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Nicolas, I planned on a "joke" entry with Aqua, but your post did remind me that...in the immortal words of Sarah Michelle Gellar, "It just ain't skanky enough!"
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Sorry, Anthony, I couldn't resist! I hope you're not offended! I just thought it would be funny to take a little laugh at ourselves and how seriously we take this. Believe me, I take this waaaay too seriously sometimes!
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Yeah, no "Strawberries" on my list, Stephan.
As big of a Beatles fan as I am, there are a few songs that I don't hold in a particularly high regard. That's one of them; "Across the Universe" is another (along with a few other lesser-known album tracks too).
"Penny Lane" wins the A-sides battle, for me anyway.

Honorio: If someone asked me which is my favourite minute of music (although why the hell somebody could ask me that) I would choose for sure the last minute of “God Only Knows”, where the vocal harmonies of the boys from the beach goes intertwining and intertwining forming a spiral that elevates you to heaven.
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
We all know what the BIG 2 will be, so I think the only way to do them justice is to post them together.

Comments:
Honorio: Bruce Springsteen once described the drum hit at the beginning of “Like a Rolling Stone” like the “snare shot that sounded like somebody’d kicked open the door to your mind”. And it’s not a fan exaggeration, this snare shot opened a lot of doors: it introduced folk into rock (and rock into folk), it introduced literature and poetry into pop lyrics and it introduced adulthood complexities into a mostly teenager style.
1. The Beatles- A Day in the Life (1967)

Andre (96)
Pop Elton (180)
Lonesome Panda (200)
Comments:
Honorio: Lennon wrote a song from fragments of newspapers (it was usual for him these times), played acoustic guitar and sang with a haunting beautiful voice. McCartney wrote and sang a middle section, played piano and bass and was responsible for the drug references (“I had a smoke / and I went into a dream” or “I’d love to turn you on” . And Starr played the best drums you can actually hear on a Beatles song.
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
What a great finish!
Moonbeam, let me be the first to say - amazing job! You definitely raised the bar for future polls with your killer, interactive YouTube format! *applause*
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
And there it is!
It has been my great pleasure to be pilot for this little adventure. I'll get around to posting some fun statistics soon, including an amalgamation of this list and the albums list to determine the top 100 artists according to Henrik's formula! I think it will be interesting to compare it to the results of the artists poll.
I'm signing off for now. As we all know, we love the list, we trust the list, and we BELIEVE in the list. As such, it has been my pleasure to bring you the list, and thank you all for giving me the opportunity and for participating. You've made it a blast, and a healthy-ish distraction from the stress of moving! I know I'm discovering new songs from this, and I can't wait to dive in deeper.
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Let me offer a hearty thank you again to everyone. This forum has really come to life over the past year or so with Bracketology, the decade polls and the updated album and song polls, and I love all the fervor that goes into it.
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Brilliant list guys. I've been around these forums for quite some time and haven't posted until now. I love what you guys do with this; it's a great idea. Although I do now wish that I had joined this earlier and submitted the list - I might have been able to push God Only Knows into number 2.
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Also, this was awesome to watch unfold Moonbeam. I appreciate the work and, especially considering how hard it must have been for you to watch a Beatles song land at #1.
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Thanks Moonbeam for all your work !
Well I was currently trying to put this poll and the one of the album together to make the artist list, but if you do it on your side, I'm going to spend my time on something more useful like searching a job (or more probably play PS2, watch a dvd, read a comic book or listen to music)
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
You guys should be pleased! My last charting entry in the list was number 42! Maybe in 2011 the tide will sway Dylan's way. Or maybe something will come along between then and now that blows both out of the water! Here's to hoping!
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Thank you Moonbeam! These countdown days have been the best in AM forum history. And I'm sure many many people will go back to these threads to listen to the great songs and see the videos. All in one place!
Thanks again!
(If my English was better, I would use better words to describe all my positive feelings!)
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
OK guys, nice job. I didn't participate but I impressed that you had Thirteen, by Big Star (maybe my favorite song) at No. 64 instead of No. 2,475 where the critics have it. Well done!
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
OK. I guess there will be some Bob, Beach Boys and Beatles now. Maybe even a Bowie song or two. Where is "Let It Be"? R-E-S-P-E-C-T? B My Bay-Bee? Born To Run? No More California Sun? Marvin Gaye, Joy D, Righteous B, Curt C. I guess we all will see. Fools Gold, Common People, Tainted Love. Have I missed someone not above?
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Haven't commented as this has unfolded, so I'll say it's been well presented and tremendous fun to follow! Well done and every one that voted and especially to Moonbeam. Can't say there was anything that was 100% new to me but a few things I've not really sat and listened to for a while!
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Songs appreciated in 2005 (top 100) but forgotten in 2008:
32 The Beatles - Something

Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
I took the top 200 list from Acclaimed Music and subtracted tracks on our top 500 list. Highest rated songs not to appear on our top 500 are:
Aretha Franklin - Respect
The Kingsmen - Louie Louie
John Lennon - Imagine
Beatles - Hey Jude
Animals - House of the Rising Sun
Beatles - In My Life
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Stone Roses - Fools Gold
Madonna - Like a Virgin
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
It was me who was the "Poet" and in my real life I didn't score any points either today...
It should be real fun to see some peoples individual lists!
Moonbeam, is that possible or should we publish themselves in another thread? If it sounds like I'm threatening anyone, I am... :)
To the list...I could live with the top 20!
Besides that I discovered some real great tunes, "13" by Big Star, "Plainsong" by Cure and "Hyper-Ballad" by Bjork, just to mention a few. And Hoagy Carmichael - Stardust! Django Reinhardt version prefered.

Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
What a beautyful collection of songs. Thanks Moonbeam for putting it together with the streaming links. You can kill hours with your friends listning at and talking around this list. Thanks also to all you people who have taken the effort to submit a list for this poll. I hope that they all will be posted. It will be a pleasure to go through everyone of them in seach for lost and new treasures.
Re: Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Just finished reading the list! Wow, it's been a great work of all the AM'ers, who had to think once, twice and much more times while making their lists, (and then going back and remaking it again, hehe). But specially it's been an incredible work of Moonbeam. All we were apreciated too much his ideas of putting youtube videos for the 200 songs, and of taking a day only to show the 201-500 bubbling under songs (and so permiting those songs that only one of us seems to love (or even to know) to become known for all the other AM'ers)!
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
I LOVE THAT MIKAH song that JOsiah sings in AMerican Idol...i think it was sooo funny that he makes fun of simon for it...LOVVVED it...Im gonna get the album...its sucha catchy song
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Fred Steely Dan - Doctor Wu :)
Katy tried
I was halfway crucified
I was on the other side
Of no tomorrow
You walked in
And my life began again
Just when I'd spent the last piaster
I could borrow
All night long
We would sing that stupid song
And every word we sang
I knew was true
Are you with me Doctor Wu
Are you really just a shadow
Of the man that I once knew
Are you crazy are you high
Or just an ordinary guy
Have you done all you can do
Are you with me Doctor
Don't seem right
I've been strung out here all night
I've been waiting for the taste
You said you'd bring to me
Biscayne Bay
Where the Cuban gentlemen sleep all day
I went searching for the song
You used to sing to me
Katy lies
You could see it in her eyes
But imagine my surprise
When I saw you
Are you with me Doctor Wu
Are you really just a shadow
Of the man that I once knew
She is lovely yes she's sly
And you're an ordinary guy
Has she finally got to you
Can you hear me Doctor
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Great results and great work, Moonbeam!
Greetings from a stormy New Zealand (this morning we had no electricity and no water at the B&B, we are surely experiencing the kiwi-way-of-life here).
Re: 2008 Acclaimed Music Songs Poll: The Results (Part 4)
Midaso, today everything normalized here in Whangarei (North Island) and we had a very humid, but sunny day. We hope to swim with dolphins tomorrow, so we keep our fingers crossed that we will have the same weather as today.
