Henrik, I also have the issues with the following lists. Can you let me know which ones you need (I checked the lists section; some of the links are dead.) Thanks.
- 100 Greatest Songs of 2004
- 50 Greatest Albums of 2001
- 500 CDs You Must Own Before You Die
- 1001 Greatest Songs To Download Right Now
Nice list of rock albums, gave me some inspiration for my top 100. :)
Aren't most or all of these lists already included?
For being made by Maxim it surprises me how often I agree with Blenders lists and reviews. The writing isn't too hot though. Although, I don't think I agreed with their list last year too much at least when it came to singles.
I didn't see these particular lists under the "Lists" section of AM, so I thought I'd contribute.
I think Blender is actually quite well written. Sure, on a few occasions I've disagreed with their ratings, and on even rarer of occasions have they been completely wrong (X&Y's five-star rating, for example - which even they admitted was out-to-lunch), but that's to be expected from any music publication. More importantly though, I've never come across anything in the magazine that's factually incorrect. In fact, they seem to know what they're talking about, and they don't come off pretentious like RS or Pitchfork; they throw in a lot of intelligent humor (jokes that often require a fair amount of music knowledge to "get").
It's fun, but I don't know about well-written. Rolling Stone and Pitchfork aren't really what I compare to for good writing- they are far worse than Blender. But, there are a lot of magazines like Under the Radar, Magnet, and Big Takeover that have much better writing and quality interviews. I don't get to find out what Death Cab For Cutie spent 500 bucks on but I do get to find out what Jello Biafra thinks about the current music landscape.
But, like I said, I tend to agree with Blender quite a bit when it comes to their ratings.
already be included, just like the 100 Greatest American Albums list, 500 Greatest Songs, etc.
I like Blender- I find the writing at times to be pretty decent- sometimes witty, even. Not as sophisticated as a Rolling Stone, but doesn't have to be.
JR - again, I didn't see these particular lists on the AM site. A few of them were there, but not the ones I've submitted here.
Do I just assume every Blender list has been included already?
I checked out the lists, and the links fo some just say "shortcut to Blender," so it ma be a lil' tough to tell just from that if a list has been included. No harm in posting- Henrik would say if they already were included or not- though he may not with then ew addition to the family!
Or, I guess we can check some of the songs/albums from those years and see if Blender is listed under any of them.
Anthony, these end of year lists are already included, but my links are not up to date. Similar with the lists you also mentioned that you have.
I think the list of 50 greatest rock albums from 2002 is up against the infamous genre-list-from-non-genre-magazines-will-not-be-included rule. Especially since they also presented their "500 CDs You Must Own Before You Die".
OK?
Sounds good to me Henrik.
