Idolator's Jackin' Pop poll results are up!

It took longer than expected to be completed, but the results of Idolator.com's Jackin' Pop critics' poll are finally available at: http://www.idolator.com/jackinpop2006/

A reminder: Idolator is a music blog affiliated with Gawker.com. Last month, they announced this poll, edited by noted rock writer Michelangelo Matos, as a brazen attempt to supplant the Village Voice's Pazz & Jop poll, under the theory that thanks to the recent massive changes in ownership and personnel at the Voice the value of the 2006 poll would be severely compromised. Idolator sent out 1,500 ballots to print and online rock critics, and despite negative pressure from the Voice's corporate owners, they got 497 ballots back - a more-than-respectable total.

Henrik, I assume that you give a somewhat higher weight each year to the P&J poll, because of the numbers involved. It might not be a bad idea to do the same with this one.

The results page for the top albums poll has 1300 titles listed. Here are the top 100:

Re: Idolator's Jackin' Pop poll results are up!

I wholeheartedly endorse this poll. Not only because I voted in it, but also because I finished second in their critical alignment ratings. On second thought, perhaps that's not such a good thing ... never mind.

Re: Idolator's Jackin' Pop poll results are up!

A question to Henrik: Will this poll be treated as the successor of the Village Voice poll?

Re: Idolator's Jackin' Pop poll results are up!

I guess you can say that. It will be given a much higher weight than the other EOY lists, just as I did for Village Voice's Pazz&Jop poll.

Re: Idolator's Jackin' Pop poll results are up!

Keep in mind, of course, that there is still going to be a P&J poll next month as well. If there is a groundswell of protest non-votes, as an NPR story about the Idolator poll implied, its value might indeed be severely compromised, but unless only 50 or so critics participate the poll should probably still be given its usual extra weight. It should be interesting to compare the two - although I suspect they'll probably look very much the same.
