Rolling Stone Mag. Top 100 Songs

here's the link: http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/12769472/the_100_best_songs_of_2006

and might i just add that it SUCKS! ridin' is number three...enough said.

Re: Rolling Stone Mag. Top 100 Songs

and now the top 50 albums- http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/12800635/the_top_50_albums_of_2006

not as bad, but their justifications for each album's position on the list is uncomprehensive.

Re: Rolling Stone Mag. Top 100 Songs

So, four of the current AM top ten albums for 2006 didn't even make the RS top 40. I can understand how Joanna Newsom, Destroyer and even Hot Chip missed the cut, but Gnarls Barkley? Really? The RS staff put John Mayer at #11 but didn't think ST. ELSEWHERE was even one of the year's _forty_ best albums? Really?

I don't know yet what to make of the #2 rank for STADIUM ARCADIUM. RHCP albums always seem to gain critical status retroactively in comparison to how they were received at the time of their initial release (they have never made the Pazz & Jop poll, for instance); in this case, I'd guess that this catch-up process will be more accelerated, as critics making their year-end lists say, "Hey, that Chili Peppers album was two discs - why, that kind of ambition deserves to be rewarded!"

Or, it could just be that ROLLING STONE is off its nut. (Not that the two are mutually exclusive.) We'll see how much of an aberration this is as more lists roll in.

Re: Rolling Stone Mag. Top 100 Songs

Sorry - meant to say, four of the current AM top 15 didn't make the RS top 50.
