Who rates the albums....

Hi ,

I just discovered this site ,really impresed.
I want to know in what are you based when you make year-end lists, and best of all time lists??
I can see Franz Ferdinand is placed at number 65 as the best album of all times(which is to high in my opinion),what calculations you made when you placed this album at 65?

Thanks

Re: Who rates the albums....

First of all, the Acclaimed Music list is based on critics lists. If you click on an album name you will see all the critics lists for that album and that should give you a feeling of how it has ended up at its current position.

(Maybe you have already understood this, but I just wanted to make sure.)

Over the years I have developed a very complicated formula to make the results as good as possible. There are three important factors I'm working with:
1. positions in critics lists
2. amount of information
3. the average standard of the music covered by the available critics lists

So, taking the example of the "Franz Ferdinand" album, it works like this:
1. The album was listed in (or near) the top of almost all end-of-2004 lists and has been listed in most of the best-of-00s and best-of-alltime lists that have come out since its release. This gives a very high score and all-time position.
2. The information (number of critics lists) is small compared to the amount of information of older albums (end-of-year lists are weighted much lower than all-time lists).
==> A few all-time positions down for FF.
3. From the information available (all-time critics lists, All Music ratings, etc.), 2004 and the other years from this millennium are not as acclaimed as most of the earlier years. Therefore, being in the top of an end-of-2004 list or a best-of-00s list gives a lower score than being in the top of say a best-of-the-70s list.
==> A few more all-time positions down.

Still, FF ends up at place 65. I hope this makes sense.
