Unacclaimed Week 25

Week 25 sees us move to bracket W4, which features songs that won each of their first 3 matches. The winners will move on to bracket W5 (and a guaranteed spot in the top 6), while the losers will duke it out in bracket L6.

Please listen to the songs before making your choice, and provide comments (however brief) to form the basis of your pick.

The deadline for Week 25 is 11:59 PM, November 27th AM time.

You can read the descriptions of why these songs were nominated in the rules thread.

Match W4.1:

Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight - "Flight of the Pelican"
Brazilian Girls - "Homme"

Match W4.2:

The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden"
Nick Nicely - "Hilly Fields"

Match W4.3:

The Walker Brothers - "The Electrician"
Nina Simone - "Sinner Man"

Match W4.4:

Nirvana - "Do Re Mi"
Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness"

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

It is absolutely devastating that 2 of my all-time Top 10, "Sinnerman" and "The Electrician", have to go against each other, while relatively mediocre tracks like "Flight of the Pelican", "Homme", and "Hilly Fields" stand a good chance of moving on. That hurts.

Match W4.1:

Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight - "Flight of the Pelican"

Both of these tracks are out of their league now, I like Pelican a bit more.

Match W4.2:

The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden"

Very good song. "Hilly Fields" has lost its charm for me.

Match W4.3:

The Walker Brothers - "The Electrician"

Almost impossible -- never thought I would have to vote against Nina Simone in anything, especially her greatest epic. But I nominated "The Electrician", and I have to stand by that masterpiece.

Match W4.4:

Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness"

Not. Even. Close. I nominated Curtis, this is his best track, and my #2 of all time. Just an incredible mix of creeping funk and glorious neo-classical strings.

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

I'm in agreement with sonofsamiam here, but can't Nina Simone still go on to the finals somehow through the loser's bracket?

Match W4.1:
Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight - "Flight of the Pelican"

Not even in the same league.

Match W4.2:
The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden"

Not even on the same planet.

Match W4.3:
Nina Simone - "Sinner Man"

On the same planet, somewhere far away from the other planets.

Match W4.4:
Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness"

Not even in the same universe.

Cut & Paste from Henry. None of these are close for me.

Thanks!

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

Match W4.1:

Brazilian Girls - "Homme" beats Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight - "Flight of the Pelican"

Going in I thought I was going to give it to "Fligh of the Pelican," which has a nice interplay between the vocal and guitar. But relistening to Brazilian Girls was even better than the previous times. FOr some reason, the groove sounded groovier.

Match W4.2:

The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden" beats Nick Nicely - "Hilly Fields"

I really have come to like "Death and the Maiden" a lot.

Match W4.3:

Nina Simone - "Sinner Man" beats The Walker Brothers - "The Electrician" - Both are overwrought but performed by compelling vocalists. Nina is more so.

Match W4.4:

Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness" beats Nirvana - "Do Re Mi" - Blow out of the week.

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

Match W4.1:
Brazilian Girls - "Homme"
One of the best discovering of this game.

Match W4.2:
The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden"
No comment, easy choice.

Match W4.3:
Nina Simone - "Sinner Man"
Very hard choice but this song is maybe the best of all the game.

Match W4.4:
Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness"[/quote]
How the Nirvana's song is still there ?

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

I genuinely really enjoy all 8 of these, so voting is tough.

Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight - "Flight of the Pelican"

Nick Nicely - "Hilly Fields": I think this is my favorite discovery of this game!

The Walker Brothers - "The Electrician"

Curtis Mayfield- "Right on for the Darkness"

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight-Flight of the pelican

Nick Nicely-Hilly fields

Nina Simone-Sinner man

Curtis Mayfield-Right on for the darkness

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

I'll vote Flight of the Pelican and Sinner Man, because I don't remember all of these completely well, but I remember those are the two best in the game.

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

Crap. I made a horrible error. It should have been 60s Nirvana's "Rainbow Chaser", not 90s Nirvana's "Do Re Mi".

Will those who voted in the last match confirm their new vote in the Unacclaimed Week 26 thread?

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

For the three matches that were correct, the winners have been determined and are guaranteed a spot in the top 6!

The losers will duke it out in the losers bracket.

Lal Waterson & Oliver Knight - "Flight of the Pelican": 7
Brazilian Girls - "Homme": 2

The Verlaines - "Death and the Maiden": 6
Nick Nicely - "Hilly Fields": 2

The Walker Brothers - "The Electrician": 2
Nina Simone - "Sinner Man": 7

The correct Curtis/Nirvana matchup is now part of Week 26.

Re: Unacclaimed Week 25

Moonbeam, is the bracket set so W4.3 meets W4.4? That would be a shame, as I think "Sinnerman" and "Right on for the Darkness" are 2 of the favorites right now.

Yes, that's how it is set! The loser of that matchup could still make the final again through the loser's bracket, though.
