Re: DIVISIONS: Week 15

Rocky Raccoon
Usual rules, you're voting for the song, not artist, poll close midnight Friday, Oct. 14.

Rocky, what's up, are you not continuing this game? Or was it just a break?

Re: DIVISIONS: Week 15

DIVISIONS has been discontinued because of a lack of interest. It gradually went down from 23 voters in the first week to eight in week 15. It's not worth the time it takes to do all the calculations for such little turnout.
It seems polls are always going to outweigh any other type of game on this forum. A thread on a poll just for PJ Harvey albums has garnered a lot more interest than this. I also noticed a drop off in the World Cup game, which was similar to this one but survived because it was shorter in length.
Not having to figure out scores, standings and the next week's schedule has given me more free time for other endeavors, which is not a bad thing.
My apologies to those who were waiting for some results, but I was just leaving week 15 out there for a while to see what, if anything, happened. Nothing much did.

Re: DIVISIONS: Week 15

OK, too bad but I can fully understand your reasoning.

Smaller divisions might perhaps make it easier to stand through, but I'm not sure if that will solve the problem of losing voters interest after a while.

It was great to participate, so thanks anyway for all your effort!

Re: DIVISIONS: Week 15

I think it was that the length of the season caused repetition fatigue. I was surprised when we got to week 11 that you said the season was only halfway through. This is a good idea for a game but 22 weeks is just excessive.

Just like Unacclaimed was a great idea, but it should have been single elimination, for the same reason. (We should try it again with single elimination).

Re: DIVISIONS: Week 15

I think it would be fun to have a shorter version of the divisions game, that we come back to once a year for a new season.

Re: DIVISIONS: Week 15

A 12-week season starting in August. Then a 4-week playoff with the top 16. You could make it happen every year, that would be alot of fun.

Re: DIVISIONS: Week 15

In the world cup, AM forum members had to identify with artists and form song teams. This is one significant difference with the divisions game, where a direct identification with the artists is missing.

This morning, a new idea popped up in my mind and some further brainstorming followed. As soon as the idea gets more concrete. I will post a separate thread.

For now, I think we are having a bit too many games and polls going on, so this should be something for 2012 anyway.
