What do you think will be the top songs on Acclaimed Music's 2011 rankings at year end?
I think the following songs could rank in the top 25:
Bon Iver – Holocene
Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues
The Strokes – Under Cover Of Darkness
Arctic Monkeys – That’s Where You’re Wrong
My Morning Jacket – Holdin On To Black Metal
James Blake – The Wilhelm Scream
Radiohead – Lotus Flower
Tune-Yards - Bizness
PJ Harvey - The Words That Maketh Murder
Lykke Li - Get Some
Radiohead - Codex
Lykke Li - Sadness Is a Blessing
Tune-Yards - Gangster
to my mind there haven't really been many standout songs, at least none that come to mind. the charts are clogged with utter garbage for the most part and a lot of the acclaimed records of the year (Destroyer, Fleet Foxes, PJ Harvey, Shabazz Palaces etc) are quite album-y albums. I suppose Bon Iver, yes, but otherwise I'm slightly lost on this one.
St. Vincent - Cruel
The Field - Then It's White
The Antlers - Putting The Dog To Sleep
Fleet Foxes - The Shrine / An Argument
The Rapture - How Deep Is Your Love?
15) I'm From Barcelona - Always Spring
14) Battles - My Machines
13) Orelsan - Raelsan
12) Tyler the Creator - Yonkers
11) Smiths Westerns - Only One
10) Bill Callahan - Drover
9) Bon Iver - Perth
8) Gang Gang Dance - Mind Killa
7) James Blake - Wilhelm Scream
6) Cascadeur - Walker
5) Bon Iver - Minnesota
4) Wu Lyf - Spitting Blood
3) tUnE-yArDs - Gangsta
2) Beastie Boys - Make Some Noise

No competition for the moment, this song is the best one to appear in French hip-hop since IAM's "Demain c'est Loin".
It relays the last words of a French guy before his suicide, he launches his hatred at the face of, well, almost everybody in France. It plays with clichés and thus points out both the huge problem of communautarism in France and many, many, many vices of French society, because well, most of those clichés don't come out of nowhere.
Musically I love it too, it's much richer than French hip-hop usually is, the delivery is the best of Orelsan's carreer so far and the texts is great.
The whole album is very good, never as violent and tough as this song, often funny, sometimes even positive. I regard this guy as the French Mike Skinner, really the same spirit I think.
Agree with 90% of the songs mentioned, just adding:
Wilco- The Art of Almost
Though honestly, my top song list always mirrors my favorite albums list. I listen to music primarily for the entire album, and usually my mindset is "Okay, this is my favorite album of the year, and this is the best song off of it. That's my #1 single."
