Rank the Tracks: The Velvet Underground and Nico, OK Computer, Revolver

I think it'd be interesting to see how the tracks of some of the more acclaimed albums compare to each other according to people. I tried this on another forum once, and I found the rankings surprising but interesting. I'd really like to see what this board thinks. I'll add up the totals to see how the tracks compare. Re: Rank the Tracks: The Velvet Underground and Nico, OK Computer, Revolver

Any reason you picked these 3 specifically? I have no idea for OK Computer to be honest, even after all those attempts to appreciate it I still can't distinguish most of the tracks. Revolver has too much filler that's indistinguishable as well, so I'm not gonna bother. I'll add some Highway 61 Revisited and Who's Next instead.

Re: Rank the Tracks: The Velvet Underground and Nico, OK Computer, Revolver

Well, I'm doing those three just because, and I'm only doing those three right now so I can update it without having to do a bunch of lists at once. I would have gotten to both of those albums eventually, I'm just starting with these three, but might as well include those two as well. I'd need to relisten to them both first, though.

The rest are all on the same level and I don't care to rank them, except

14) Yellow Submarine

Edit: I have to say, I find it quite wierd to see Climbing Up the Walls being considered a "middling" song, even the worst according to one. To me that song defines OK Computer. It shows best the huge step they'd made from the Bends. It helps that it's fucking scary - Thom Yorke should scream more often.

4. Baba O'Reilly
5. Bargain
6. Getting In Tune

Best album from start to finish ever recorded as far as I'm concerned, even when I consider the numerous complaints in this forum about Daltrey's vocals etc. compared to the Who's earlier albums.

Highway 61 Revisited

1. Like a Rolling Stone

3. Highway 61 Revisited

Not a big fan of any other song on this album. I strongly prefer Blood on the Tracks if I want to listen to an entire Dylan album.

Climbing Up the Walls is indeed awesome. Plus there's this awesome live version of it, probably my favorite live Radiohead on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKv9sz8WsXE

Thanks for providing this comment Zorg. I just listened to Climbing Up the Walls again. I find the song to be interesting and a potential grower, but the distortion seems excessive to me throughout most of the song, so I doubt that it ever be one of my favorites. But, given your comments, I certainly will give it a few more listens.

Re: Rank the Tracks: The Velvet Underground and Nico, OK Computer, Revolver

Sorry, I've been really busy with other things, and I don't think I can actually do this. If anyone wants to take this topic series, go ahead, but I won't be able to continue.

Re: Rank the Tracks: The Velvet Underground and Nico, OK Computer, Revolver

I'd like to say before I do my lists that just because I might put a song at the bottom of the list doesn't mean I necessarily think it's filler - it might not be on par with the rest of the album, but if it's a really good album (like the first three here) then there's gonna be a lot of fierce competition for each song in the list. Usually, though, the no. 1 on my list is far and away my favourite song on the album.

The Velvet Underground and Nico:
1. Sunday Morning
2. Heroin
3. There She Goes Again
4. All Tomorrow's Parties
5. European Son
6. Venus in Furs
7. I'm Waiting for the Man
8. I'll Be Your Mirror
9. Femme Fatale
10. The Black Angel's Death Song
11. Run Run Run

OK Computer:
1. No Surprises
2. Subterranean Homesick Alien
3. Paranoid Android
4. Fitter Happier
5. Lucky
6. The Tourist
7. Let Down
8. Climbing Up the Walls
9. Exit Music (For a Film)
10. Karma Police
11. Electioneering
12. Airbag

Revolver:
1. Tomorrow Never Knows
2. For No One
3. Got to Get You Into My Life
4. She Said, She Said
5. And Your Bird Can Sing
6. Here, There and Everywhere
7. Eleanor Rigby
8. Taxman
9. I Want to Tell You
10. Love You To
11. I'm Only Sleeping
12. Yellow Submarine
13. Doctor Robert
14. Good Day Sunshine

Might as well do the other two also...

Highway 61 Revisted:
1. Like a Rolling Stone
2. Desolation Row
3. Ballad of a Thin Man
4. Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues
5. Queen Jane Approximately
6. Highway 61 Revisited
7. It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry
8. Tombstone Blues
9. From a Buick 6

Who's Next:
1. Baba O'Riley - used to be my favourite song of all time. I think it still might be.
2. The Song Is Over
3. Behind Blue Eyes
4. Won't Get Fooled Again
5. Bargain
6. Love Ain't for Keeping
7. Going Mobile
8. Getting in Tune
9. My Wife
