Just down the road (US 29) from Atlanta is the Liverpool of the South and our stop this week: Athens, GA.
The rules are as follows:
In voting for this week's HEADLINER, voters have 10 points to distribute among as many artists as they like, with a maximum of 6 points for any one artist. The artist with the most points will be the HEADLINER while the runner-up will take the position of OPENING ACT.
In voting for this week's SET LIST, voters have 25 points to distribute among as many songs as they like, with a maximum of 12 points for any one song. The top ten songs will be played at this week's show.
Remember that the artists or songs that you choose should be associated with Athens or locations nearby in some way.
There's no particular rule for where Athens starts and where last week's stop, Atlanta, ends, but I think in general this week should be limited only to acts from Athens.
The most acclaimed artists of/connected to Athens and locations nearby according to Acclaimed Music (with their all-time rank in parentheses) are:
The B-52's (268)
Neutral Milk Hotel (590)
Of Montreal (705)
Matthew Sweet (793)
Drive-By Truckers (929)
The Olivia Tremor Control (1524)
Circulatory System (2082)
Bubba Sparxxx (2097)
Indigo Girls (Unranked)
Vic Chestnutt (Unranked)
Some acclaimed songs about Athens and nearby locations:
Brook Benton - "Rainy Night in Georgia"
Charlie Daniels Band - "The Devil Went Down to Georgia"
Gladys Knight & the Pips - "Midnight Train to Georgia"
Ray Charles - "Georgia on My Mind"
Voting will end at 11:59 PM forum time on Monday, August 22nd, 2011.
A pivotal club in the development of Athens' alternative rock scene, the 40 Watt Club hosts this week's performance. Not only did they host R.E.M. frequently in its earlier days, they've seen the rise of most of the bands above, from the B-52's to Of Montreal.
After this week the tour will take off for two weeks as I move to university, before returning in Nashville, TN.

Blind Willie McTell (3)
I've already voted for Neutral Milk Hotel, so I won't vote for them again. R.E.M. and Blind Willie McTell are the only others I like.
