Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 4.2

Four of the final eight have been decided. This week determines the rest of the field.

Voting stays open for a week. Anyone is allowed to vote, but you must have heard both albums.

Division 1:

Ennio Morricone - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly vs
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk

Division 2:

GZA/Genius - Liquid Swords vs
Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic

Division 3:

The Wipers - Youth Of America vs
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds

Division 4:

Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup vs
Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 4.2

I want to re-listen to the two in division 1 before voting.

Division 2: Liquid Swords

One of my favorite discoveries of the cup against an album I liked a lot when I first heard, but didn't hold up well over time.

Division 3:

I was going to vote Seventeen Seconds, but on second thought I want to re-listen to Youth Of America and make sure there isn't something I just missed the first two times, because I really hate it when I'm forced to cast the 'boring' vote.

Division 4: Perfect From Now On

It's a bit of a shame that the division that was for the less well known albums is probably going to be won by an album that should have been in division 2 or 3. These are two good, but in my opinion, un-noteworthy albums, and not discoveries for anyone.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 4.2

Division 1:
Fleetwood Mac - Tusk (both are worthy winners)

Division 3:
The Cure - Seventeen Seconds (I keep my fingers crossed)

Division 4:
Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On (both are worthy winners)

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 4.2

I will now vote for Ennio Morricone and The Wipers.

The trouble with soundtracks is they rarely make a cohesive album. They aren't designed to be a cohesive album, they're designed to fill the specific needs of specific scenes of films. In this case, though, the individual scenes beat out the good but unremarkable Tusk.

I enjoyed Youth Of America more than I did the previous times. Seventeen Seconds is another album I like but have never found remarkable. Youth Of America gets close to the sort of music I really like, but it needs something more to make it stand out. That could be more noise, fancier guitar playing, more melodies, or anything, but as it stands now it's just above average punk.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 4.2

Liquid Swords
Perfect From Now On

I initially thought I'd vote the other way in both of these matchups, but re-listening to the albums changed my mind. I hate voting against Stereolab, one of my most-played bands recently, especially since Emperor Tomato Ketchup is T150 all-time material for me. But Perfect From Now On is one of the greatest indie albums ever. Those first two songs are simply massive.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 4.2

Division 3: GZA/Genius - Liquid Swords
Division 3: The Wipers - Youth Of America
Division 4: Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album 2: Round 4.2

Ennio Morricone - The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Division 2:
pretty sure I would vote for GZA but I haven't listen to the other (and can't from here)

Division 3:

The Cure - Seventeen Seconds
I like the Wipers title track, the rest is fine but less exciting

Division 4:

Built To Spill - Perfect From Now On

I love Emperor's first 3 songs, but Perfect From Now On is one of my 3 favorite albums ever.
