Acclaimed Music World Tour: Round #2, San Francisco
This week is the second stop on the Acclaimed Music World Tour, on the bay in San Francisco, California.
This week we'll be voting to determine the best of the best in artists from S.F. and its surroundings as well as their finest tunes.
The rules are as follows:
In voting for this week's HEADLINER, voters have 10 points to distribute among as many artists as they like, with a maximum of 6 points for any one artist. The artist with the most points will be the HEADLINER while the runner-up will take the position of OPENING ACT.
In voting for this week's SET LIST, voters have 25 points to distribute among as many songs as they like, with a maximum of 12 points for any one song. The top ten songs will be played at this week's show.
Remember that the artists or songs that you choose should be associated with San Francisco, California or locations nearby in some way.
The most acclaimed artists of/connected to the Bay Area and its surroundings according to Acclaimed Music (with their all-time rank in parentheses) are:
Sly & the Family Stone (39)
Creedence Clearwater Revival (40)
Pavement (83)
Grateful Dead (100)
Jefferson Airplane (130)

Here is a short list of acclaimed songs about San Francisco/the Bay Area:

You may of course vote for any artist or song you like provided they have some connection to San Francisco. Songs can be about S.F., they can be written by an artist from S.F. or any other link you can draw to the city or its surroundings.
Our venue this week seems like an ordinary brick building on the outside, but make no mistake: it is one of the most famous venues in rock. THE FILLMORE was one of the main concert venues during the psychedelic explosion of the late-60's in San Francisco, and saw concerts by the Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, and others. It moved to a larger location by 1969, which later closed, and the original venue re-opened in 1994. Seating about 1,000 guests, it will be an intimate (but not too intimate) venue for this week's show.
Re: Acclaimed Music World Tour: Round #2, San Francisco
This is an idea I want to try out:
I'm going to post the next round's city a week in advance. (For example: next week is Seattle). If anyone wants to choose the venue and write a short bit about it, you can claim it sometime this week. Other rounds are also up for grabs on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Re: Acclaimed Music World Tour: Round #2, San Francisco
So I presume, with the inclusion of Pavement in the artists list, that we are extending this week's voting to Northern California generally. If that's the case, I've got a song to vote for that is about a place also in the Central Valley, one that some people may be interested in voting for as well...
Artists:
Pavement (4 pts.)
Sly and the Family Stone (4 pts.)
Imperial Teen (2 pts.)
Songs:
I love Otis Redding... you all know that. But he's already getting his song through, and it's not one of my favorites of his, so I'll vote for some others instead.
"Folsom Prison Blues," Johnny Cash (9 pts.) - "I'm stuck in Folsom Prison, and time keeps draggin' on."
"Unfair," Pavement (9 pts.) - That's right... I'm voting for it again. Why? Because: "Up to the top of the Shasta Gulch/and to the bottom of the Tahoe lakes/manmade deltas and concrete rivers/the South takes what the North delivers"
"New Speedway Boogie," Grateful Dead (4 pts.) - Their response to Altamont... "Spent a little time on the mountain/Spent a little time on the hill/Things went down we don't understand/but I think in time we will"
"Fake Tales of San Francisco," Arctic Monkeys (1 pt.) - "He talks of San Francisco, he's from Hunter's Bar/I don't quite know the distance/But I'm sure that's far"
"Welcome to Paradise," Green Day (1 pt.) - "I want to take you through a wasteland I like to call my home/Welcome To Paradise!"
"Lodi," Creedence Clearwater Revival (1 pt.) - "Oh! Lord, stuck in Lodi again."

Re: Acclaimed Music World Tour: Round #2, San Francisco
Pavement (2)
Sly & the Family Stone (2)
DJ Shadow (2)
Jefferson Airplane (2)
!!! (2)
Otis Redding, “Sittin’ on the Dock of the Bay” (13)
Arctic Monkeys, “Fake Tales of San Francisco” (3)
Johnny Cash, “Folsom Prison Blues” (3)
The Pretty Things, “S.F. Sorrow Is Born” (3)
Arthur “Big Boy” Crudup, “Mean Old Frisco Blues” (3)
(I arbitrarily decided to dock points from Pavement since they’re not quite from the Bay Area proper. Similar thing for “Folsom Prison Blues.”)
Favorite sports team from this area: your 2010 world champion San Francisco Giants (the Oakland A’s Mustache Gang from 1972-74 is also in contention).
