#1 Bob Dylan
#5 Frank Sinatra
#3 Chuck Berry
#2 James Brown
#1 Stevie Wonder
#5 John Coltrane (I think it's likely that CCR will win, but I'll still be extremely upset about it.)
#3 Sly & The Family Stone
#2 The Beach Boys
#1 Bob Dylan
#5 Frank Sinatra
#6 Iggy & The Stooges
#2 James Brown (Here's hoping Yes and JA split the classic rock vote.)
#1 Stevie Wonder
#4 Creedence Clearwater Revival (Sorry sonofsam; it was close though)
#3 Sly & The Family Stone
#2 The Beach Boys
#1 Bob Dylan
#4 The Byrds
#3 Chuck Berry
#2 James Brown
#1 Stevie Wonder
#5 John Coltrane - My daughters have been heavily into the Sound of Music recently. But as much as I've heard Julie Andrews' version recently, it will not dislodge how deeply Coltrane's "My Favorite Things" has burrowed into my brain.
#3 Sly & The Family Stone
#2 The Beach Boys - Close. Ross is missing a little something for me. So is Wilson, but the Supremes have not come up with anything as great as "Don't Worry Baby"
#1 Bob Dylan - Still got love for Agualung.
#5 Frank Sinatra - My fondness for Sinatra may be waning, but he is still a legend.
Funny- I was thinking along similar lines while listening to OutKast's "The Love Below" version not 5 minutes ago. Great version, but not Coltrane.
Seven very easy choices today, so I don’t have much to say.
STEVIE WONDER (Tough matchup for Willie.)
JOHN COLTRANE
SLY & THE FAMILY STONE (Anybody ever notice that Sesame Street pulled a LOT of its aesthetic from this band.)
THE BEACH BOYS
BOB DYLAN
FRANK SINATRA
CHUCK BERRY (Today’s only agonizing choice. Why did we have to have a second-round matchup between the guy who invented rock guitar and the band that invented punk? In all honesty, I would have taken the Stooges to win any other matchup today, except Dylan.)
#1 Stevie Wonder
#5 John Coltrane
#6 Deep Purple
#2 The Beach Boys
#1 Bob Dylan
#4 The Byrds
#6 Iggy & The Stooges
I saw them live last year. They still rock. And they play at small enough venues to get right up to the stage.
#2 James Brown
#1 Stevie Wonder
#4 Creedence Clearwater Revival
#3 Sly & The Family Stone
#2 The Beach Boys
#1 Bob Dylan
#4 The Byrds
#6 Iggy & The Stooges
#7 Jefferson Airplane
Well that's a who's who of some of my favorite classic bands.
Stevie Wonder
CCR
Sly
Beach Boys
Dylan
Byrds
pass (too close for me)
pass (JB and JA are both great in their own rights.)
My two favorites from the bay may be facing each other in a few rounds if they can pull off upsets.
