Pearl Jam ~~~ Agonizing having to vote for one of these artists which I really, really like and both have given us outstanding albums in the past couple of years...
Franz ~~~
Jay-Z ~~~
2Pac ~~~ This vote kind of surprised me when I typed it too...
Blur ~~~ Another tough vote, I like Lupe, just not enough to compete here...
The Killers ~~~
Vampire Weekend ~~~
Cypress Hill ~~~
The Roots (I know them just well enough to know that I don’t have any major problems with them. I know Pearl Jam very well – enough to know that I have enough minor problems with them to pick the Roots.)
Franz Ferdinand (Yes, they’re pretty predictable, and I doubt they’ll hold up well. I’ve just never really grokked Primal Scream.)
Jay-Z (This one was close.)
Wilco (Have my tickets to see them Friday!)
Blur
Weezer (A matchup of bands that started very strong and quickly ran out of gas artistically. But Weezer had more in the tank.)
Vampire Weekend (Interesting matchup, and I’m very curious to see if Coldplay still has the kind of support they did five years ago. Me, I prefer the band that puts its own wonky spin on ska over the band that’s really just channeling U2 and Radiohead.)
#1 Pearl Jam (Very tough matchup. Ended up going with the home team)
#4 Franz Ferdinand (Never could stand Primal Scream)
#3 Jay-Z (Never got the hubub surrounding Jeff Buckley)
#2 Wilco
#1 Blur
#4 Weezer
#6 Vampire Weekend (Favorite band since 2008)
#2 Pavement
Relatively easy week with the exception of the first matchup.
#1 Pearl Jam
#4 Franz Ferdinand
#3 Jay-Z (love both)
#7 2Pac (two overrated acts, I'll take the underdog)
#8 Lupe Fiasco
#5 The Killers
#6 Vampire Weekend
#2 Pavement
Pearl Jam
Franz Ferdinand
Jeff Buckley (sorry Jay, Buckley just gets to me more)
Wilco
Blur
Killers (always liked them, Weezer slipped away at the last album)
Coldplay
Pavement
#1 Pearl Jam
Harder vote for me than for most.
#5 Primal Scream
Easier vote for me than for most.
#6 Jeff Buckley
Not as easy as it would have been one year ago.
#2 Wilco
pass
#5 The Killers
I like some Weezer but they don't overly impress me. The Killers at least have a couple really good singles.
#6 Vampire Weekend
Two good but overrated bands.
#2 Pavement
#9 The Roots
#5 Primal Scream
#3 Jay-Z
#2 Wilco (Maybe the best band of the last 20 years. No contest.)
#1 Blur
#4 Weezer
#6 Vampire Weekend
#2 Pavement
#9 The Roots: Fairly easy win over a 90s dinosaur.
#4 Franz Ferdinand: I like Primal Scream, but I quite dig Franz.
Pass (don't really care for either)
Pass (don't know either well enough)
#1 Blur: I prefer Gorillaz to Blur, but Blur have some great singles.
Pass (Both are pretty bad overall to me.)
#6 Vampire Weekend: More of an anti-Coldplay vote than a pro-VW one.
#2 Pavement: I never got the fuss over Cypress Hill.
