#5 Alice In Chains vs. #4 M.I.A
#3 Queens Of The Stone Age vs. #6 The Black Crowes
#10 Kings Of Leon vs. #2 Eminem
White Stripes
TV on the Radio
Kanye / Easiest choice of the day...
Death Cab For Cutie
MGMT
Alice In Chains / This was a tough choice
Queens of the Stone Age
Kings Of Leon / Worst matchup of the day, there is 3 or 4 artists I did not vote for that I would rather take than any of these...
#1 The White Stripes
#5 TV On The Radio (VERY close one. Their peaks are about the same, but TVOTR has been more consistent.)
#3 Kanye West
#2 Beck
#9 MGMT (Hmmm, I know Oasis will win this, and the objective part of me still rates their first 2 as better than MGMT's best, but Oasis has become a hideous dinosaur, and I listen to MGMT more now. So a symbolic vote then.)
#4 M.I.A
#3 Queens Of The Stone Age
#2 Eminem
#1 The White Stripes
#4 Sufjan Stevens
#6 Green Day (and I don't like Green Day)
#2 Beck
#9 MGMT
#5 Alice In Chains
#3 Queens Of The Stone Age
#2 Eminem
#9 Modest Mouse: Tough choice here, but I have 2 Modest Mouse albums compared to 1 White Stripes album.
#4 Sufjan Stevens: 2 years ago, I would have chosen TV on the Radio. However, I discovered Illinois in 2009 and fell in love. Last year, The Age of Adz became arguably the most significant musical release for me personally in 10 years.
#3 Kanye West: I absolutely loathe Green Day. I'm not big on Kanye, but he has a few singles I can somewhat enjoy.
Pass (I'm sort of ambivalent to both overall, but I'm open to recommendations!)
#9 MGMT: I absolutely loathe Oasis. Oracular Spectacular is pretty fun.
#4 M.I.A: Close call here.
#6 The Black Crowes: Close call here, too!
#2 Eminem: Eminem is a total douchebag. I don't care for most of his music. But he's still worlds better than the banal Kings of Leon.
The first two choices today are almost impossible; after that, things get easier…although there’s not a single act on today’s ballot I don’t enjoy.
Modest Mouse (I think they might give Jack and Meg some stiff competition, but I doubt they’ll win.)
Sufjan Stevens (Between two acts with a very similar standing and profile, I’m going with the one I would – just – prefer listening to right this moment.)
Kanye West (Closer for me than for a lot of you, as I still have some fondness for Dookie. But it’s still an easy pick.)
Beck (Death Cab has really won me over, though.)
MGMT (Prediction #1: They won’t beat Oasis today. Prediction #2: If we do the UMT again in 2025, they will. I imagine that only a sentimental attachment to Oasis would prevent one from seeing MGMT as the more musically interesting and engaging band.)
M.I.A. (I said above that I enjoy all of today’s acts…well, to be honest, I can only enjoy Alice in Chains if I’m in the right mood. Or maybe the wrong mood.)
#1 The White Stripes
Good vs way better.
#4 Sufjan Stevens
Great versus great. Damn you making me choose one.
#3 Kanye West
Used to be good and is now overrated versus used to be overrated and is now good, but obsessively overrated.
#2 Beck
Great vs so-so
#1 Oasis
Great singles band vs hype machine band
#4 M.I.A
Designer grunge band versus provocation-merchant
pass
#2 Eminem
Used to hate versus still hate
#1 The White Stripes
#5 TV On The Radio
#6 Green Day
#2 Beck
#1 Oasis
#4 M.I.A
#3 Queens Of The Stone Age
#2 Eminem- Couldn't one of these have gone up against Death Cab?
#1 The White Stripes (Not that close, and I like Modest Mouse)
#5 TV On The Radio (I like a couple of Stevens albums, I like everything TVOTR has done)
#3 Kanye West (West wins by a hair)
#2 Beck (I can't vote for the hometown boys in this one)
#1 Oasis (MGMT hasn't really hooked me)
#4 M.I.A. (Alice in Chains was the one early '90s Seattle band I got into the least)
#3 Queens Of The Stone Age (The Black Crowes might have won in 1991)
#2 Eminem (I'm not a KoL hater, and Because of the Times is one of my favorite albums from last decade, but Eminem has a more impressive body of work. P.S. I think a lot of the KoL vitriol comes from their recent success, and that success being based on two very mediocre albums).
Stripes
Green Day
Oasis
Eminem (Kings of Leon make it to round to, but NIN (and others I can't remeber at the moment) didn't make it at all?
That's why I dislike the separation of decades.
