These are some cruel matchups.
In some cases, I really like both acts: Prince/Beat, Waits/Buzzcocks, Cheap Trick/Eno.
In others, I dislike or am at least meh on both: Joel/Benatar, Dan/Derek, Lennon/Heart. Frankly, I would have taken the Ohio Players over almost all of those guys.
#1 PRINCE
#9 ELO
#12 Buzzcocks (Hate Tom Waits!!!)
#4 Billy
#3 Steely Dan
#6 Human League
#7 Cheap Trick
#15 Heart (Somebody has to vote for them, I kinda like Barracuda & Magic Man!!!)
Prince
ELO
Tom Waits (tough call)
pass
Steely Dan
Human League
Brian Eno (I think he's the best overall artist of the 70s...he better at least win this matchup)
John Lennon
#1 Prince
pass (Should probably vote ELO just to cancel out exposure advantage)
#5 Tom Waits
#4 Billy Joel
#14 Derek and the Dominoes
#6 The Human League
#10 Brian Eno
#2 John Lennon
Prince
Cooper (close, but not really in a good way)
pass
Billy
D&D (Damn close, in the good way)
pass
Cheap Trick
Heart (My hating on Lennon's overyoko solo career continues)
Brian Eno (I think he's the best overall artist of the 70s...he better at least win this matchup)
Looks like it could be tough for Eno.
I am not particularly familiar with Eno's solo efforts. He did not have a big following when I was at SUNY at Stony Brook (73-77)
My guess is that many of Eno's songs are not the most accessible. Perhaps you could recommend a few songs that are reasonably accessible and some others that are the most likely to impress after many listenings.

Cheap Trick 51.5% / Brian Eno 48.5%

Really sad to see Eno leave. I agree that he is an album artist, but there are a few songs that really stand out to me, so here's for you Henry...
By This River - from "Before and After Science"
Golden Hours - from "Another Green World"
Fat Lady of Limbourg - from "Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)"
Deep Blue Day - from "Apollo (Atmospheres and Soundtracks)"
An Ending (Ascent) - from "Apollo (Atmospheres and Soundtracks)"
Regiment - from "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" with David Byrne
There are many ways to approach and enjoy Eno, but these are my recommendations. I wouldn't start with "Here Come the Warm Jets", it's not my cup of tea.
