Re: Top albums of the 2000s spreadsheet - update thread 2
Updated with Austin Town Hall, Ghostly and The Sun. The top 3 can not be much closer than it is right now. If Funeral had been #13 instead of #3 in the list from Austin Town Hall it would be #3 instead of #1 in total.

The British Press does a lot of absurd things...Yankee Hotel Foxtrot at #36. FOR SHAME!
While I would agree that it is absurd that YHF is only #36 on the U.K. list, the fact is, Jonathon, that even if YHF's U.K. ranking was #4 ... it would STILL be #4 overall, because The Big Three are The Big Three across the board. You undoubtedly think YHF is better than The Big Three, which is a valid opinion, but considering their dominance, it's a considerable accomplishment for any album to be firmly ensconced right behind them, and that's exactly where YHF is. So to continue harping that it's underrated is, itself, a bit absurd at this point. Sorry.
Re: Top albums of the 2000s spreadsheet - update thread 2
Interestingly enough, only when ALL British critics would have had YHF as their #1 it would have beaten "Is This It". Even just 1 #2 spot would mean a tie.

Harold, while your point has validity on the decade end lists, when factored into the entirety of acclaimedmusic, it falls apart a bit.
As far as I understand, these points are factored into overall points, which determines all time rankings. So while, yes YHF would still be #4 and it won't be any higher than that in any territory (though it has been as high as 3 in the USA) a higher UK ranking would have secured a top 100 of all time ranking for YHF last update, which is imo a pretty huge milestone for an album.
So yeah, on a decade end level, it's ridiculous. But in the wider scope of Acclaimedmusic, it has ramifications.
Re: Top albums of the 2000s spreadsheet - update thread 2
Though I have some misgivings about the order, 8 of the albums in the top 10 are dyed in the wool, 5 star classics.
Arctic Monkeys are kind of a joke though. They're like the Bush to Franz Ferdinand's Nirvana. I'm very disappointed they're in the top 10. This album should be like 75.
The British press in particular has ducked behind one of the most safe, trend-following albums of the decade, at the expense of much more creative offerings that are lingering in the bottom reaches of the lists.

Can't believe winehouse's is this decade top female album. No way! Albums by M.I.A., PJ Harvey, Joanna Newsom, Bjork, Cat Power are much much better. BTB is great, is solid, but no way top female of the decade, even "The Reminder" by Feist should be ahead of it, even Extraordinary Machine by Fiona and that album is nowhere to be seen inside AM top 200 albums of this decade.
Re: Top albums of the 2000s spreadsheet - update thread 2
La Vanguardia and Digg.
RADIOHEADSMAN, of course the top 100 can be shown here as well, but it will be a lot of top 100s if it is posted with every update. I recommend downloading the free Excel Viewer program. Let me know if this is any problem.
lists are included in the spreadsheet, I gather? I know there usually are more albums lists, but the songs spreadsheet look pretty sparse, in terms of number of lists.
Thanks to all who work on it- thanks for the tip on downloading the Free Viewer program, Henrik.
Is This It falls from first to third! Elephant above The Blueprint (although both are great). Monkeys now being ahead of OutKast is lame, but whatever, good update.
Decades lists have been quite harsh to Merriweather, it's a lot better than the tripe like ARctic Monkeys and Amy Winehouse. The British critics have really failed ths decade.
those 200-some albums on that initial Paste list? Not that it's a big deal, just wondering.
We (I) decided the list was too sprawling and too redundant to the existing top 50 list to be worth adding. The Rock's Back Pages list actually IS a list, with all 176 albums ranked; this one just seemed like "a bunch of albums that we liked."
JR
Are there some eligible lists that haven't been added to the spreadsheet?
Not as far as I know, at least among all the ones that have been identified in the forum.
Sufjan Stevens in the T5 and Arctic Monkeys outside the T10! What an incredible update. Now if Sound of Silver and Stankonia can overtake Back to Black than all will be right with the world.
Overall | USA Rank | UK Rank | International Rank | Artist | Album | Point total
Nice to see that Yankee Hotel Foxtrot might at least become #2 with US/ Canada critics. It's gone from barely above Is This It, and 85 points below Funeral, to nearly 100 points over Is This It and only 40 below Funeral in the past few days.
Sufjan Stevens in the T5 and Arctic Monkeys outside the T10! What an incredible update. Now if Sound of Silver and Stankonia can overtake Back to Black than all will be right with the world.
...And the arctics are back in and Sufjan's back out =[
I really hope that AMG updates it's 00s album ratings soon.
It's kind of silly that only 4 albums in the top 10 have 5 stars!
I also hope they do that. And i bet they will overlook some records, there are a bunch of masterpieces of other decades, that are not rated a 5 yet. Albums like Kate Bush's Hounds Of Love and even The Flaming Lip's Soft Bulletin that they named one of the best of the 90's (or the best i don't remember very well) are still rated 4.5
When they started doing the Allmusic loves 19xx, i was glad cause some albums had their ratings upgraded, but they already made a retrospective of the 00's and no one was upgrade. Each critic is now releasing a list of their top 100 albums, since it's made by only one music critic i guess AM won't consider. The first list was by Andy Kellman, and he placed Erykah's New Amerykah at the top spot, again no one was upgraded.
I hope that after this, they pick the records and finally upgrade them. Right now they could start upgrading some albums that are rated 4 stars to 4.5 (they already did that to Lady GaGa, s why not?) like Radiohead's Kid A, or Sufjan Stevens's illinoise or Antony's I Am A Bird Now, there's a bunch of records that should be a 4.5 by now, at least until they upgrade the others (and even some of the 4 star records) to 5 stars.
Re: Top albums of the 2000s spreadsheet - update thread 2
I will be unhappy to see Think Tank possibly slipping in the ranks at the next update. I do think it's the best thing Damon has done this decade by quite the long shot. As of the last update, it was still ranked higher than Demon Days, which is how I feel it should be.
