Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album: Round 2, Week 4

Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue

Awesome album, the best solo work by any Beach Boy. I wish it cleared the 70s poll T100.

Beck - Sea Change

Clearly this is one of the non-Aeroplane favorites to win. The board loves it, and I do too.

The White Stripes - Icky Thump

Very close one. To me both albums are only their bands 3rd best, but I have to go for the Stripes over the Spoon one.

If I have time to listen to Saitn Etienne then I'll be back with my vote for that bracket. It's highly unlikely I'll be voting for Belle and Sebastien though.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album: Round 2, Week 4

Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue

Easy winner, one of the best albums in this poll.

Saint Etienne - So Tough

A fantastic slice of sophisticated pop, with a bunch of wonderful singles.

Aimee Mann - Bachelor #2

Very tough call over Sea Change -- Beck's album has higher highs, but Aimee's is more consistent.

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Another tough one, Spoon edges a relatively minor (though fun) Stripes album.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album: Round 2, Week 4

My votes:

Zuma

Tigermilk
(Very close vote for me. #175 all time vs #215 all time.)

Sea Change
(#114 all time)

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga
My second favorite Spoon album vs my least favorite White Stripes album. And yes, that includes their self titled.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album: Round 2, Week 4

Belle and Sebastian - Tigermilk

Aimee Mann - Bachelor #2
Very tough choice. Bachelor no. 2 was in my top 200 list Sea Change wasn't. I listened Sea Change after its bit surprising showing in the top 100 and it sounded better and had aged better than I thought (I listened Sea Change a lot in 02 and 03). Still it's hard not to vote Aimee Mann so I change again and vote Aimee Mann.

White Stripes - Icky Thump
Actually this is almost better album than Elephant...

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album: Round 2, Week 4

One more day to vote.

It's a closer week than last week. Only one matchup isn't close, and there's another big potential upset.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album: Round 2, Week 4

Saint Etienne - So Tough
Beck - Sea Change (It hurts a bit to vote against Aimee)
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (I was a bit harsh to this record in the first round, it deserves better)

I can't decide about the first matchup.

Re: Best Moderately Acclaimed Album: Round 2, Week 4

WINNERS
Dennis Wilson - Pacific Ocean Blue
- sick with swine flu, so I haven't listened to albums this week, but I'm no fan of Neil Young, and I quite liked this one so..

Can't decide on the second one.

Aimee Mann - Bachelor No 2
- Lovely record.

White Stripes - Icky Thump
- Had fell of the White Striped Train when this was released, but it sounds quite good.
