Almost all of my new discoveries over the past few years have come from reading lots of music blogs.
AM caused me to re-evaluate (and substantially upgrade) Radiohead. I knew about them but wasn't paying much attention until I read all of the testimonials on the forum.
There might be a few others, but they don't come to mind. I wish there had been a website like this when I was 20. If so, my list of discoveries would be much longer (and I would have gotten to all of the classics a lot sooner). But, alas, there was no internet when I was 20.
Oh wow. There are lots! For some of these artists, I had a limited knowledge, but I can honestly attribute most of my interest in the following artists to this website.
In the AM top 200:
Can
Chic
Elvis Costello
Echo and the Bunnymen
Franz Ferdinand
Grandmaster Flash
Al Green
Jesus and Mary Chain
LCD Soundsystem
Radiohead
Otis Redding
Lou Reed
Patti Smith
T. Rex
Television
The Velvet Underground
Tom Waits
Wire
London Calling: at the time I was too young to appreciate it.
Can: I had heard of them and I saw them popping up in the early seventies lists; I really like the Babaluma album
Steve Reich - Music for 18 musicians: quite high on the 1978 list, and the only "modern classical" album on the site - so I had to check it out
Neu!: another Krautrock band, very influential for punk Johnny Rotten once said.
The Getz/Gilberto album (1963), because "Girl from Ipanema" is on it, I listened to the whole album, and bingo!
Call of the Valley album (1967): simply beautiful Indian tradional sitar music
M83: french shoegaze band
