This year I haven't been listening to a lot of 2009 albums and I have to catch up

What would you recommend ?

Animal Collective- Merriweather Post Pavillion (5/5)

One of the 00s most interesting groups finally creates their masterwork. Basically the Pet Sounds of Rave music.


Grizzly Bear- Veckatimest (4.5/5)

Sort of the OK Computerized version of their choir boy folk harmony sound.

Highly recommended for fans of: Fleet Foxes- S/T, Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, Radiohead- OK Computer, Mercury Rev- Deserter's Songs.


Wilco- Wilco (The Album) (4/5)

While not as great as their 1996-2004 run, this album is a vast improvement over 2007 mediocre Sky Blue Sky. An incredibly consistent effort, even if it leans too heavily on the bands past.

Recommended for fans of: Elvis Costello- This Year's Model, George Harrison- All Things Must Pass, The Band- S/T.


The Flaming Lips- Embryonic (4.5/5)

A sprawling double album that returns The Lips to their pre-Soft Bulletin noise rock roots.

Recommended for fans of: Pink Floyd- Piper at the Gates of Dawn, Beck- Odelay, The Microphones- The Glow, Part 2.

that God the synths are finally getting ditch for the fuzzy guitars. That's how it should be.

XX is my favourite so far.

Half of my favourite albums of 09 are Finnish albums (one of the oddest ones is Tuomas Henrikin Jeesuksen Kristuksen Bändi - Vade Retro Satanus part 1. There are songs like 'Fuck off and Die' in the album so I'm not sure should I recommend it to anyone but that album is one of the most played this year (and in top 5 of this years Finnish albums and opening track Regina Linnanheimo is one of the best songs of the year).

Some Malawian music.
The Warm Heart of Africa by The Very Best (Esau Mwamwaya and Radioclit).

And my favourite French album is still Color Cassette.

I haven't heard yet the new Raveonettes album but at least I recommend that to me.

I don't like Animal Collective 2/5

and Grizzly Bear is ok (3/5)

-Personnally I'm not a devotee of the Pitchfork Church Of Our Savior Radiohead. I'm much more of a classic rock fan

- "Sky Blue Sky" is one of the my favorite albums of the decade (well ahead of YHF), along with "Fleet Foxes"

- I can even listen to bands who don't live in Brooklyn

-my fav 2009 so far is Anthony & the Johnsons

- On my wishlist : Wilco, Richard Hawley, Bill Calahan, Phosphorescent, Mastodon, M Ward
