Looking for parts BSA WM20: Sump Guard and others

All,

I am in search of a BSA M20 sump guard for my recent project M20.

I have heard that Wayne is the guy to find.

Hi Andy
There are at least 3 types used
The year of your bike will determine this should you want to pursue a “correct” spec bike

Re: Looking for parts BSA WM20: Sump Guard and others

Wayne makes the early type (used until 1943), complete with the correct shouldered nuts to mount it. You can contact him at ...bridgeboilers@talktalk.net .....As far as I'm aware nobody makes the very early version or the late type with the front U bolt mounting.....Ian

Re: Looking for parts BSA WM20: Sump Guard and others

John,

Thank for the tip!

I believe the bike is a 1942 frame (WD20 82293)
The motor has two numbers WD20
50236 and
81740 (the #1 in inverted) (possible the rebuild frame number it was in?)

Re: Looking for parts BSA WM20: Sump Guard and others

Ian,

Thank you for this information.

I believe Wayne has the correct one and from the pictures I've seen, it's a nice piece. I will contact him.

Have you had any experience with the reproduction stuff coming out of India?

Quality? Fitment? etc?

Thanks again!

Re: Looking for parts BSA WM20: Sump Guard and others

Indian parts are a gamble in my experience..In the case of the sump guard the position of the brackets in particular has to be dead right for it to fit correctly....I used to make these but stopped doing them after I retired...Wayne is a friend of mine who makes boilers for steam engines and he took the job on as a 'fill in job'...I let him use my drawings, press tools and welding jig so I know they are a good fit and well made...I have one that I made on my own bike...Ian

Re: Looking for parts BSA WM20: Sump Guard and others

Not much help but the nuts are a standard BSA item.
