Hi Alan thanks for taking the trouble to reply, but that ebay item looks to be a postwar timing cover with the breather assembly which moved to that position from the drive side crankcase about 1948?
The oil telltale connects to a union on the crankcase itself below the front of the timing cover.

Also as it happens, the breather timing case cover (#65-2143) was used in 1940 for the WB30. (with the non winged BSA logo) Ron
