I had 2 vintage roundshaped airfilters lying around that I picked up some time ago... they fit on the Amal 276 as they screw on nicely. Now my most favorite M20 named Oldie refuses to take the filter as Outside Diameter reads app30mm instead of the standard 1-1/4"
I took of the 30mm cone inlet off and put it aside. I do have a complete carb ready but Oldie at the moment is such a lovely runner... bit afraid that any change will make her protest....
Could anyone help me find / make an adapterring or find other solution...?
To keep y'all posted this is what I I found 2 so far
1- fa De Groot in The Netherlands offer item 30/339 wich is a Bellmouth with a mesh- screen filter. The ID should suit the 30mm threads on my (deviant) 276 carburetorbody. Very tempting...I will consider this one

They promise it will fit on the 276. It makes the intake suitable for a sleeve-on aircleaner..... I'm not sure this will add to the retrolook as I intend to .....
Anyway, if anyone has an orphan-retro like pancake airfilter somewhere with 30mm ID...please let me know...i'll give it a good home...

Arnold I don't know how that adapter would help your cause? This is what was often fitted during WW2. It acts as a sort of air filter, but is actually a "Flame Trap"

It. is exactly the meshfilter that De Groot BSA could supply. Did not know this as this info is not in the m20 manual. but I will order it. Do you happen to know what militairy finish it should becone... Olive D, black or metalgrey..?

Several manufacturers fitted the Amal flame trap to their WD models, including Royal Enfield. Others, like BSA and Norton didn't. It's not clear why as they catch a lot of blow-back if nothing else.
The originals were die-cast zinc alloy (Mazac / Zamac / Monkey Metal) and were usually finished in a silver lacquer as per the mixing chamber bodies.
