Re: Norton Instruction Manual civilian/military.

That's really strange as C8496 is usually shown as Cat. Ref.3 and C8753 should be Cat. Ref. 4. I suspect that the rubber stamps were mixed up !

C8496-Instruction-Manual

Norton took a long time to provide pre-printed Instruction books, although the Spare Parts Lists were unique to the WD side-valve model and were overprinted from at least Cat. Ref.4. They continued to provide the standard civilian booklet, including unneccessary pages referring to OHV and OHC for at least five years ! They were out of date and incorrect with sparking plug recommendations too.

It doesn't seem to have been until 1939 that they actually overprinted with contract number and even then, they continued into 1940 with all the surplus information and wasted paper.

Does this booklet have any lubrication diagrams etc. or information relating to frame or engine numbers inside ?

Re: Norton Instruction Manual civilian/military.

Code 54/8 corresponds with the contract C8753 according to the REME supersession list so they clearly made a mistake with the cat ref no. as you say.

Cheers,
Rob
