Triumph WW2 experimental twin.

Triumph experimental twin in standard 3HW frame & cycle parts,gear box & tin chain cases,electrical system is different (alternator) with bulb horn fitted,battery carrier not fitted?.

The Triumph twin had a similar (but not the same) early alternator system as the BSA WB30..The very low output alternator had no zennor diode to regulate output but provided direct lighting..Thus no battery fitted and the use of a bulb horn...The system in this form was deemed a failure and not progressed...In fact I have a photo of a WB30 before and after it had the alternator replaced with a conventional magdyno set up..There were two versions of the Triumph, one with the alternator on the timing side and the other with it on the drive side...Alternator systems weren't widely used until the post war period and even then in the initial the 6 volt form they had no form of voltage regulation..Alternator coils were switched in and out depending on the system demand......Ian

I does make you wonder why they completely redesigned that bike to use those engines, when it already fitted in a 3HW frame. Ron
