with the dynamo fitted and with both wires dis connected, get a length of wire and connect this to the positive on the battery and scratch the other end of the wire to the F terminal on the dyno, do this two or three times, should get a little spark. hope this helps
Just an aside, but standard wiring for Lucas Magdyno-equipped WD motorcycles was negative earth. Positive earth didn't come into use until the early / mid 1950s. A few years after the car industry adopted it.

But if you want to repolarise your dynamo to negative earth on a WD bike, is the procedure the same ?
Meaning, a wire from the - pole of the battery to the F on the dynamo ?
{not to the D on the dynamo ?)
