Does anyone have any information on when bsa introduced the standardised handlebar controls - moving away from the complicated combination levers & replacing with Amal controls
Br
Job.
Hi Ron
Reason I ask is that a better resolution photo of a photo I already had came available yesterday
In it is a bike clearly showing its Irish registration plate
With this information- I determined It’s one of the last delivered out of 475 machines & its date of factory exit was 30 August 1940 leaving for Dublin
Personally I had thought this to be a bit early but it seems not with your photo & comments
Darren, nothing wrong with them at all! I've enjoyed them on my 1940 WM20 for many years. The main reasons for changing them were an attempt at some form of standardisation and of course economy. Regards Ron
Hi Darren
Nothing wrong with them / just a question on when they stopped
It’s considerably earlier than I had thought
I might just keep my last set of combo levers here
Hi Ian
I was very surprised some years back to discover combination levers fitted to the b31 in 46 season
Don’t have a 47 parts list so I have no idea if it was a single season use only or not
August 1940 could be right for that picture.
Recently nick and i dicovered that in contract c6654 wich is orinaly fitted with all the early parts as valanced mudguard.central speedo and combined levers things changed to late style stuff. I guess they already make the modified parts and run out off older parts and decided to use them already.
Bike on left has the L shape speedo bracket, a front brake cable instead of a rod - but has no steering damper knob - just the large adjusting nut - no number plate mount either
