Another charging problem

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction with this charging issue on my WM20.
The bike has a 60w dynamo & a DVR2 electronic regulator.
The system's stopped charging, the ammeter showing a discharge with the lights on which has now drained the battery.
The dynamo's been checked on the running bike & produces 12-13v.
The regulator's putting out 6-7v.
But still not charging.
All contacts seem OK & I hope I've tested them all for continuity?
I've disconnected the F A & D contacts on the regulator from the rest of the wiring. All these contacts can still be earthed to the frame.
Any pointers, & what now?

Re: Another charging problem

Is it still setup for 6 volts?

Re: Another charging problem

Polarity ? Have you tried flashing it over ? Had it been standing ?

Re: Another charging problem

Thanks for these replies.
I thought about repolarising the dynamo but didn't try it as the bike's in regular use. A couple of times lately the ammeter showed a discharge at first but went to charging quickly. This last time the battery was drained.
At one retesting of the regulator (connecting the A terminal to earth) there was no charge indicated there or across the battery terminals.
But hooking everything up it's working again & went well for a 40 mile ride.
So we'll see.

Re: Another charging problem

Connecting the A terminal to earth? Wouldn't that cause a short? or blow the regulator? Ron

Re: Another charging problem

Hi Ron
I got this off the internet. Sorry. You can find stuff about this but it's obviously AI.
Anyway, I got away with it & the voltmeter did give a proper reading.
My bike's wired similarly (a bit differently around the switch as I don't think my switch is a WD type) to the diagram you've just put up on the Forum.

Re: Another charging problem (Edited by Author)

OK Bob you must be following some instructions that I don't understand. If you connect the A terminal to earth and run the engine, it would give a direct live to earth.

You can send your DVR2 back and he'll test it. https://dynamoregulators.com/dvr2.php

Re: Another charging problem

Hi Ron
My ignorance of matters electronic is profound & I don't understand the internal workings of these regulators.
I agree with you that looking at the Lucas diagram I can't understand why this idea would work. I've contacted the DVR2 people & will report back.

Re: Another charging problem

Well, I just received a very prompt reply from the DVR2 people.
They referred me to the installation instructions & charging checks.
These refer to measuring the regulated output at A with the other lead to earth E.
Since my regulator was earthed to the frame at the time I think this is the same thing.
Handy to know.
As I implied I'm not real sure why the system first failed & then started again. I'll carry some wire around for a while so I can try the repolarising idea if necessary.
The days are getting longer here so at least if the lights fail I'll get home.

Re: Another charging problem

I've followed their instructions with mine setup on the test bench.
I even purchased a second one to check the first against.
They both followed the test instructions.
I run a lithium battery in mine with its own electronics in it.
I think I'd have less trouble running a lead acid.
Though with the lithium I get over twelve hours of light after it's thrown its solder again.
I'm about to make a low power alternator that put an end to my troubles and hopefully run a halogen headlight bulb again.
