Early WM20 field stand clip fixing?

Hi all,

I am fitting a field stand to my 1940 WM21 (thanks again Mark). The bike is pre-rear racks; it has a valanced mudguard with the small top carrier. I have a few photos showing the spring clip position on the rear lift handle. However, I'm not clear how it attaches. Should there be a stud or hole in the handle, or is there a p-clip or something of the sort?

As ever, any help will be appreciated.

Craig

Craig, it is a brazed on lug with a 3/8" BSC threaded boss. That thread is located 3.75" from the mudguard bracket hole and it is 1/2" long.
The bottom section is 3/4" in diameter and 1/2" high with a groove that allows the lift handle to be recessed into the lug by it''s radius.

Hi Ray,

Thank you for your detailed response. That's perfect!

The brazed on lug for the spring clip appears to have been in two positions, much lower on the early KM20s with the first use of the clamp on pivot prior to the brazed on pivot.

Re: Early WM20 field stand clip fixing?

Craig, the dimension I gave you is for the type shown in the second picture - I haven't run across any really early examples.

Whichever type you need for your particular bike I neglected to mention the bracket is fitted to the left-hand side of the lifting stay (I have two stays with the brazed lug and one without and they are all marked with a stamped 'L' on the bottom of of the left-hand side.
They are slightly different dimensions between left and right - I believe that is because of the asymmetry of the rear wheel with the brake hub on the left-hand side.
