Matchless G3L Drivers Handbooks,these were supplied to every machine and kept in its toolbox.

below,an early type Handbook with contract numbers stamped on the front cover in purple ink,also stamped inside on the first page ,24 pages total with fold out lubrication chart at rear,the same chart is used on all following Handbooks.


below,Handbooks now change to a new type,Book No.100/M.C.3 now with 48 pages total (this example has possibly been used post war by the T.A 1422684 its new C number) .

below,Book No. 100/M.C.3-A now with added information at 64 pages total.

According to the post war KeyCards, 1422685 and 1422686 were definitely Matchless motorcycles. Can't find 1422684, it may have been disposed off before 1949 (when the KeyCards were compiled).

Presumably the Matchless toobox was more water-resistant that the Norton, or were they in an oilcloth anti-gas wallet ?
