Royal Navy Matchless G3L.

Re: Royal Navy Matchless G3L.

As some of you may know, I'm currently trying to crack the RAF and RN census number systems (see also this thread on HMVF).

I'm pretty sure that 9962RN is a Matchless from RN contract C/11462.

Re: Royal Navy Matchless G3L.

Jan, it looks to me as if there is a painted figure preceding the "9" ? Could that fit ?

Re: Royal Navy Matchless G3L.

Yes I thought so too! I mentioned it to Jan a while ago. Ron

Re: Royal Navy Matchless G3L.

I also had my doubts... I have got another close number (10051RN) in my list. And if there would be another digit in front of 9962 it would have to be either 19962, 29962, 39962 or 49962. But I haven't got any close numbers to these combinations in my list. Of course I could be wrong... That's why I'm hoping that more post war auction catalogues will come out of the woodwork one day...

Re: Royal Navy Matchless G3L.

Tropical uniform. (Did the RN call it Khaki Drill ?) but still with a headlamp mask...I thought they weren't much used in the tropics due to the reduced risk of air attack ? Somewhere in the Med ?
