Chris, I managed to do get the dynamo out in the end without touching anything on the off side of thr bike, once I had removed the dust cover from the end of thr dynamo it came away easily
Lex, yes I see the cutout in the engine plates but there was nothing on the dynamo to coincide.
Ithe bike was a basket case when I got it , the dynamo is dated 1965 so your information is not relevant ????
I have now got to get the dynamo checked and then re fitted so stand by for another batch of questions

The plate that should be on the outside of the dynamo case is there to maintain the dynamo chain alignment, the plate should have slotted holes for adjustment and is retained by 2 slotted cheese headed screws with a 0 B.A thread
