Re: M20 Magdyno problems

Do you have a voltmeter?

Have you polarized the dynamo?

Is the dynamo still on the bike or on the bench? If on the bench, see if it will turn as a motor.

Have you run the dynamo without the regulator connected and seen it it has any output?

With what little info you have provided and what testing you have done, I am guessing. The dynamo is a very simple device and should be easy to determine what is wrong. The Lucas regulators are much more reliable than people think and not usually the problem.

Re: M20 Magdyno problems

What type of regulator is fitted, an original Lucas one or an electronic replacement?.....Ian

Re: M20 Magdyno problems

Have you replaced the armature?
I did and made the mistake of thinking it was ready to fit but you actually have to undercut the mica between the segments first….

Re: M20 Magdyno problems

Just don't overload them, they will happily put out a lot more current than they are rated for.
Lithium batteries pull far too much current.
Halogen bulbs are also too greedy.
Resoldering the armature wires with high temperature helps, but not for long.
I'm using a BPF high output LED now, if you ride slowly, you can just see the road.
I don't think the fish eye lens helps.
