Rather than just scrap it they appear to have cut out the middle of this black out mask.

Yes, many were converted like this, have had about 50 of them, just put them on the lathe, and turn the hole a bit bigger, and you have a nice rim, to use on 1939-1941 bikes.

Its a 6 inch head lamp, presume its held in place by the W clips,with the cork seal,will open it up later in the week.
