Fork tubing

A friend has a set of badly rusted girder forks for a Norton and wants to have a go at refurbishing. Does anyone know a source for the tapered tubing used on the blades?

I read an article in SUMP by Jake Robbins that the tubing is not “off the shelf” but that was a while ago, maybe things have changed? One can hope!

After reading the “Jake Robbins is alive and well” thread sending the forks to him is not an option.

Cheers
Pete

Re: Fork tubing

Remove all of the paint and then give them a light sanding.
I expect the forks will be stronger now, than after being retubed.
If you are very worried about the corrosion, have them thickness checked by a compressor inspector.
They have an ultrasonic tester for measuring receiver thicknesses.

Re: Fork tubing

the extent of the corrosion is such as to make the tubes unsafe.

Re: Fork tubing

Several guys have had a go at making forks for the pre-war Speedtwin and Tiger 100 which also have tapered tubes....and given up! I gather it was drawn through a die to their specific lengths. Nothing that is available off the shelf. Ron
