Can anyone tell me the size of the holes in the gauze of a Burgess air filter as fitted to the WB30 and the side gauze of a Vokes tank top filter as fitted to the M20?....Ian
When I had the same issue with the Amal screw on filter with the metal wire gauze circular discs (30/339) my solution was to offer up small drill bits of known diameter until I found one that was a snug fit. I'm not familiar with the Vokes filters. If they are a pressed gauze with the elongated holes it may be trickier to measure
I have both Ian, but how do you measure the holes? Ron
Where there is a hole, there is nothing. But not everywhere where there is nothing is a hole. A hole is a defined nothing, a nothing with an edge... 😄 (Feeling philosophic today...)
Ian, I have a NOS Vokes filter here to fit a Norman T300 generator - it looks identical to the M20 version but I haven't directly compared them.
Bottom gauze holes are 1/8" and side holes 9/64".
Not sure if that helps.
Cheers,
Adam.
Ian, I have a NOS tanktop Vokes (I think from a Royal Enfield but not sure).
That has 1/8" holes on both the sides and bottom.
The hole spacing is offset on each row and if you take the measurements for the vertical centre to centre spacing on the small red cross in the picture below that distance is 0.350" as near as I can make it with old original paint.
The horizontal spacing for for each row is close to 0.200". It is an awkward thing to measure given the offset arrangement but hopefully that is of use?
Mine is a bit squeezed in between other bikes at the moment, but I'll take some small drill bits and drag my gammy limbs in there if I can and report back later. Ron
Bit late to the party here, but I have had about 50 Vokes filters over the years, and my observation on the side mesh is that sometimes the same material was used as the bottom, and sometimes a much finer mesh was used. I have drawings, but I didn't make them, and they are in mm.
Also have sketches for the side mounting straps with imperial sizes.
