Clutch revoval question - tear down for rebuild begins
Hello All
Hope everyone is well, so starting to get the frame free to see if we can straighten it then start rebuilding the BSA. A few years ago I bought a clutch spring tool from someone on here but the thread doesn't fit / perhaps the innerds are wrong but is there another way to get the spring out without damaging the thread without the tool?
Re: Clutch revoval question - tear down for rebuild begins
Hi Kit...That is the tool for compressing the clutch spring when you are refitting it....The extractor tool fits into the larger thread in the clutch sleeve shown in your photo...Try C & D Autos for the correct tool ('single spring clutch sleeve extractor')...When you get the right tool put another posting on here for the correct way to use it..It is easily possible to ruin the tool if the correct procedure isn't followed....Ian

Kit your castellated nut has been well and truly chiselled. This is what I use. Sadly the guy who made these special sockets and probably your compression tool is no longer with us. But I think Mark Cook on this forum is making them.....and the nuts! Ron

Thanks Chaps, so we got that off and will get tools for the rebuild. We've probably totally done it in the wrong order, however...
More fubar castelation nut action for you, we can't get the crank end off now, think someone locktighted the bejesus out of it, I have never had it off in 18 years..we broke a vinatage C spanner, then went to my friends Son who are both helping me with it, he works at RedBull Racing so borrowed their heat gun & C spanner, they have several BSAs they have rebuilt, so have much more of an idea than I do.
Had to jam the primary chain to get the cush drive to the point we could try but its just not moving & of coutrse we'restarting to chew it up, another BSA owner thes guys know sent us a photo of a made a socket to fit on an impact gun..would any one happen to have one or do they exist or any pointers please how we get this one off..
Once we've got this off of course, it'll be gearbox & engine out then we can get the frame off to see if that can be saved..other pics show what the frame is doing:)
(Also tank bent with a tear in it for repair, forks totally bent, front wheel bent & two castelated nuts:) so plenty to save the pocket money for
Re: Clutch revoval question - tear down for rebuild begins
Kit I can lend you a socket for an impact gun. 3/8" drive from memory, so can also lend you a 1/2 - 3/8 reducer if you need it. Once they've been Loctited, you might have to warm it with a gas torch. Ron
Re: Clutch revoval question - tear down for rebuild begins
The engine sprocket nut really doesn't need Loctite....For a start there is a tab washer for this nut that can be fitted and which removes any need for Loctite...Personally, I don't use the tabwasher...If the sprocket nut is tightened until it contacts the end of the sprocket carrier sleeve and is then knocked up tight or done up with an air impact tool it won't come undone..I've just knocked them up tight for years and have yet to have one come undone...Ian
