I need 2 chainguards for 1939 KM23 Silver Star projects and picked up original M20 (upper) chainguards thinking I could whip off the rear bracket, strip and chrome as original. However, beneath the layers of green paint I find the metal surface is far too rough for electroplating. Therefore I'm thinking of using an Indian-manufactured chainguard simply to give me good base material for plating. Before going ahead I wonder if anyone has experience of the general shape and fit of the Indian chainguards available from the likes of EBay/ Phoenix/ Cheshire Classic Bike Parts? Looking at images of the Indian chainguards they seem to have some slightly odd-looking curvatures but I'm expecting to do some fettling anyway.
Of course if someone has a spare, genuine, M20 (rigid frame) chainguard with a near perfect metal surface I'd be delighted to hear from you :)
