Am trying to identify a bsa timing side crankcase with casting number inside 66-1617

It’s an ohv of some type that I can make out - it’s very close to M22/23
I have checked parts lists from 1939 & 1940 but this number doesn’t appear - does anyone have a 37/38 parts list to check to see if it appears there or not

I don’t know if it’s the same with the early stuff, but with the later castings the casting number often isn’t the machined part number.

With the inclusion of an oil tell tail point on the cases - it indicates to me that it’s perhaps pre war & ohv

This feature disappeared in war time & from what I can determine did not re-appear on SV or OHC cases after the conflict but would be happy to be corrected on this
