Project 1941 BSA WM20

My build so far.

I made a new lower chainguard using the drawing on the forum. I have the original but it is pretty rotten. I made a new rear brake rod as the threads had all but gone on mine.

Our Toolmaker at work made me a new lower fitting for my top steering damper as I could not get one. I will have the front wheel fitted with newly re-lined brake shoes this weekend.

Still a few more bits to find but build is going quite well.

Photo is how the bike looks now. Lower photos are of some of the pile of bits when I bought it.

Looking good Tony, your doing better than me.
What was the steering damper part you were after, I thought I'd made most of it.

Re: Project 1941 BSA WM20

Hi mark,

Thanks for the reply,

The steering damper part is P/N 15-5093. I had the part that fits on the rod made. It is slotted so the lower fork link bolt fits through it.

I welded the damper rod to it and it works perfectly.

Tony.

Re: Project 1941 BSA WM20

Thanks Tony, that’s saved me a mistake. Mine must be for the telescopic forks.

Re: Project 1941 BSA WM20

I had some of these made too

There’s a bit of making in them - then I found a couple of originals

If you need mark - drop me a line

Re: Project 1941 BSA WM20

That is correct Mark. The one for the telescopic forks has not got the slot for the bolt to pass through and is less than half the length of the girder fork one.

I had a complete telescopic fork damper so after having the part made it was just a case of cutting the rod to length and welding it in.

There was a girder fork damper on eBay recently which I did try to buy but missed out. Fortunately my problem is now solved.

Tony.

Re: Project 1941 BSA WM20

There are quite a few damper kits on ebay from India for about 70 Quid. I would think there's not much they could get wrong with these???

Well look at the knob of the Indian replica, it's not the correct shape like the original. Look closely at the 'teeth'on the side and compare them with an original. It's always easy to spot an Indian damper knob.

I bought an original last weekend.
